  1. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 88.4 overs

    Stokes c Green b Cummins (Eng 266-6)

They just start to build you back up again and then bam. A punch to the stomach.

Ben Stokes gets in a hideous tangle trying to turn the ball to leg, ending up playing the ball like he's been electrocuted. It takes an edge and is gobbled up at gully.

England are six down and their superhero is back in the hutch.

Stokes and Buttler are taking their cue from Malan and Root yesterday. England are behind in the game, but at least they are fighting.

Pat Cummins is coming on for his first bowl with the new ball.

England made an awful start against the old one...

Right. It seems we're back. Whoever tripped over the power cable and knocked it out of its socket has been given a stern telling off.

Mitchell Starc is bowling to Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler who have now put on 31.

Mitchell Starc is bowling to Ben Stokes... I think. Running into the edge of the picture, then propelling the ball too fast for us to see it. Drinks are coming on. Good idea.

Somewhere, someone is writing this down as an innovation for next season's Hundred.

If England lose a wicket and no one can see it, is it really lost?

We're seeing cricket from a very, very different angle - it's like when you go and watch cricket from the sidelines. You don't realise how fast the ball is.

  10. Eng 252-5published at 00:39 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2021

We're seeing pictures filmed from one camera, placed at third man or long-on for the right-hander, depending on which end the bowling is from. It's from a low angle, so it's like being on the front row.

SotonUni: The stream going down is probably the best thing for England fans right now

  12. Eng 251-5published at 84.1 overs

Just call the whole thing off, I say. 0-0 and we all move on to Adelaide.

Starc is hurling the ball down in his trademark style (I think). There's a bit of extra bounce with the new ball and Stokes is hit on the glove.

Well at least you can't see it anymore, Matt.

Josh Hazlewood was curiously absent for much of the day yesterday. He's bowling for Australia now.

I've woken up in cold sweats after having nightmares of this moment. The TV pictures from Australia have gone down so I am now live-texting without being able to see a thing. Thankfully our friends at ABC are still providing commentary.

Ben Stokes has just smashed a four off Starc, I'm told.

  17. new ball

That was supposed to be the easy part.

Australia have now taken the new ball. Mitchell Starc is on for the first time today.

I can remember Stokes playing that shot a couple of times at Headingley. There might be a shift from Stokes and Buttler to play their natural game.

    As I was saying... not.

Stokes plays that slog sweep again. He connects this time and nails the ball for four.
