    Mitchell c Shahzad b Mujeeb 17 (NZ 26-1)

    Breakthrough!

Mujeeb Ur Rahman gets one to spin slightly away from Daryl Mitchell and playing away from his body the New Zealand opener feathers one behind.

It is a good smart catch from Mohammad Shahzad. Those ones are never easy.

Afghanistan just ended up 20 to 25 runs short. Najib just needed someone, anyone, to get a score alongside him.

    Target 125

Really good over for New Zealand with 11 coming off it.

They need just 99 more from 102 balls.

  4. NZ 24-0published at 2.4 overs

    Target 125

    Four more!

Right in the slot from Naveen-Ul-Haq and Martin Guptill slaps it through extra cover for his first boundary.

This is a great start for the Black Caps.

  5. NZ 19-0published at 2.1 overs

    Target 125

Pace comes into the attack in the shape of Naveen-Ul-Haq and he is quickly dispatched straight back down the ground for a gorgeous four by Daryl Mitchell.

  7. NZ 15-0published at 2 overs

    Target 125

Double spin to start for Afghanistan with the returning Mujeeb Ur Rahman from the other end.

He offers Daryl Mitchell a too much width and Mitchell, who had never opened in Twenty20 cricket until this tournament, cuts through third for another boundary.

Good start for the Kiwis this.

Here's an example of some great New Zealand fielding though.

    Their catching was absolutely exemplary.

Just a reminder that it isn't guaranteed England will face New Zealand.

If New Zealand win this game they will go above Pakistan at the top of Group 2 on net run-rate.

Pakistan would have to beat Scotland in the 14:00 GMT to then go back above them and set an England-New Zealand semi-final.

John Caffeine: Seriously impressive fielding by NZ.

Jason Cole: Hard to see New Zealand failing to chase this, but you never know. England beware...

    Shot!

Mohammad Nabi drops short to end the over and Daryl Mitchell opens up his body to pierce a drive through extra cover and mid-off for the first boundary of the chase.

Afghanistan captain Mohammad Nabi and his off-spin will get us going.

Afghanistan do have a great bowling attack but they'll need to take wickets in the powerplay to win this, even if it's not the easiest pitch to bat on.

  14. Postpublished at 11:46 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2021

The players are making their way out to the middle.

I'm presuming a lot of the chat in the New Zealand changing room would have been "one partnership, boys". That would likely be enough to see them home.

Afghanistan need wickets. When they were defending a low-ish target against Pakistan they left Rashid Khan till the 11th over and it probably proved too late. I'm not sure they can afford to do that today.

New Zealand fast bowler Trent Boult: "A good all-round performance, we set the tone nicely at the start and we'll take that total.

"Us seamers are adapting to the surfaces, we saw there was more pace and bounce and we used that well.

"We've got a very balanced line-up and will hopefully polish this off nicely."

Afghanistan will be disappointed. They set themselves up to reach 140-145 but lost too many wickets at the end.

  17. Postpublished at 11:43 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2021

Just a reminder of the permutations at this point:

    • If New Zealand chase 125 and win they are through to the semi-finals
    • A NZ win would knock India out
    • If Afghanistan win it opens the door for India tomorrow if they beat Namibia. It would then come down to net run-rate which we can get into later if that is the case!

    Thanks Tim.

New Zealand were absolutely brilliant with the ball and in the field there. That is definitely up there as one of the best fielding performances in the tournament so far.

Who do you fancy from here? Thumbs up for New Zealand. Thumbs down for Afghanistan.

    Afg 124-8

A target 125 is one for the file marked "very gettable" in my book.

Anyway, that's all from me as I hand over to the man who put "fearsome" into "fearsome tearaway quick bowler", it's Callum Matthews!

This is tremendous death bowling from Jimmy Neesham.

Two runs and a wicket off the last over - excellent stuff.
