I need to lie down in a darkened room and not move for a little while.

You can catch up with the action courtesy of Matthew Henry's match report and the Test Match Special podcast, which will be available shortly.

We'll be back tomorrow to see if it will be Australia or Pakistan who face New Zealand in Sunday's final.

    Go well.

Daryl Mitchell played one of the best paced innings you could hope to see to take New Zealand into the final.

  4. Postpublished at 18:05 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2021

England coach Chris Silverwood on Sky Sports: "They put us under pressure constantly. Mitchell, Conway and Neesham were exceptional. They kept the pressure on, they took it deep and it came off."

On New Zealand's victory after 2019 World Cup final defeat: "They're a great bunch. I wish them all the best in the final. It doesn't help us but at the same time it's great for them."

  6. Postpublished at 18:03 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2021

England coach Chris Silverwood on Sky Sports: "I'm more disappointed for the guys. They've had a phenomenal tournament up til now. For a long time we held that game. We controlled the game early on, but today just wasn't our day.

"The knock from Neesham knocked the wind out of ours sails and put the game in New Zealand's favour. We threw everything we had at them. Sometimes you just have to take your hat off.

"There's lots more hard work in front of us, but still lots of positives to take from this."

On England's 166-4: "It just about kept us in the game. We thought 'we can defend this'. And for the majority of the game we did that."

On Chris Jordan, whose final over cost 23 runs: "I'll sit and have 10 minutes with him when I get back in there You have to accept that sometimes somebody is going to get you. He practices hard and he's such a pro, so we can't put it down to anything he does."

  8. 'New Zealand are deserved winners'published at 18:00 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2021

BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

England batting coach Marcus Trescothick on BBC Test Match Special: "Someone has to come out on the wrong side and that's us today. We've done some really good things in the competition and we did again today.

"But Neesham changed the game. They are deserved winners in the end.

"I thought we had a very competitive total on the board and a good enough bowling attack to defend it.

"We're pleased with how they performed. We've done the majority of what we set out to do very well. It's always going to be tough in semi-finals and finals and it shows how difficult it is playing against some of the best teams in the world.

"It's really about how you perform on the day. I think the team and management will be open and honest on what we could have done better in a minute when we get in the dressing room or, if not, tomorrow."

  10. 'I'm really chuffed with the heart shown throughout'published at 17:57 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2021

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson: "We have played each other on a number of occasions and most players have played together in various tournaments. We knew it would be a great game of cricket and that was a case. It ebbed and flowed and I'm really chuffed with the heart shown throughout.

"I thought they had a pretty competitive total at halfway stage. It was an outstanding knock at the top from Daryl Mitchell but it was also about staying in there and cashing in on small match-ups, that was the difference."

On Daryl Mitchell: "His character stood out today and has done in pretty much every game he's played for us. It an incredible knock. He hasn't done it a lot at top of the order. There's real quality there."

On Jimmy Neesham: "He came out and hit the ball hard. It's what he does. It was a really valuable knock for us. It changed the momentum of the game. There was clever hitting at the end which decided the outcome of the game."

On Pakistan v Australia semi-final: "I'm sure we'll be following it. It will be a fantastic match.

"This is a really strong English side. They're always strong. We know we now have another challenge coming up and we'll change our focus after tonight."

Jack Rule: There is no team that I’d rather be knocked out by than New Zealand. They deserved it & now all of England should get behind them now to win How great it will be to have the two finalists from 2019 to hold the two World Cups. Just as it should be.

  12. 'I am proud to be their leader'published at 17:54 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2021

More from England captain Eoin Morgan: "We are a six-hitting side and we struggled to hit them. We hung in there, we changed our game plan and posted around a par score. We felt right in the game at the hafway stage. Given the start we had, taking early wickets, it couldn't have gone any better."

On Jimmy Neesham: "To have an ability to come out and hit sixes from ball one like that is not something everyone has. Full credit to him. He swayed the game in the Black Caps' favour."

On if he will play in the 2022 tournament: "I hope so. I think I am still offering enough within the side. I love playing cricket at the moment. The guys give absolutely everything and are always looking to get better.

"They are at the forefront of change both on and off the field. I am incredibly proud to be their leader."

  14. 'I can't fault anything we did tonight'published at 17:50 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2021

England captain Eoin Morgan: "Coming into the game we knew both sides were very close. New Zealand outplayed us today. Unfortunately, in a tight game we have come out of the wrong end of the stick.

"I can't fault anything we've done tonight. We have fought unbelievably hard throughout this tournament. We've represented ourselves unbelievably well but tonight we have come up short. I am extremely proud of the guys

"It's hard to identify key moments. I thought we were right in the game from our innings right through to the 17th over. They built right up until they had to push the button then they came good. I thought we had held them at bay until that point."

Two great performances by two teams. There had to be a winner and a loser. We can't sit here for a second and say one team played badly. A team won the game rather than a team lost it.

England have been the best team in the tournament. They come here today and were matched by New Zealand.

  20. 'I can't remember what was going on'published at 17:43 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2021

Player of the match Daryl Mitchell: "It was a bit of a whirlwind at the end. I can't remember what was going on.

"We tried to hang in there as long as we could and knew that one or two big overs would bring us back into the game. We were lucky to get there in the end.

"The way Devon Conway batted and helped set up a platform, and the way that Neesh came in and struck it as clean as he did - the way he struck the ball from ball was amazing."
