Andile Phehlukwayo is doing his bit too. Clubbing Richard Gleeson away for successive boundaries.

  2. Postpublished at 21:34 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

South Africa are actually two runs ahead of where England were at the same stage - but they have lost two more wickets.

Stubbs needs to do a Jonny Bairstow.

The confidence you take out of an innings like this - hopefully Tristan Stubbs will go from strength to strength.

  4. SA 150-5published at 15 overs

Tristan Stubbs nudges a single to bring up his fifty from just 19 balls.

I think we are going to hear a lot more about this kid in the coming years.

Excellent effort from Liam Livingstone. But that's another six to Tristan Stubbs.

  6. 6 runs

    SA 148-5published at 14.3 overs

If Liam Livingstone was eight foot tall he might have got that.

Tristan Stubbs pulls it to the mid-wicket boundary, Livingstone is diving at full stretch but it disappears over for another maximum.

  7. SA 141-5published at 14.1 overs

Or perhaps not! That's lovely timing from Andile Phehlukwayo as he drives Reece Topley away for four.

    Great shot.

  8. SA 137-5published at 14 overs

Andile Phehlukwayo is the new batter. If I were him I would just let Tristan Stubbs have the strike as much as possible.

98 runs from 36 is the equation.

Adil Rashid does not panic. He's so used to playing against powerful batters.

England have been faultless in the field. Good response from Adil Rashid - he has taken some tap in this over.

  11. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 13.5 overs

    Miller c Jordan b Rashid 8 (SA 136-5)

    The skipper goes!

A single brings David Miller on strike and the South Africa captain looks to join the party but only succeeds in picking out Chris Jordan at long-on.

    Oh. My. Word.

That might be the biggest six of the night.

  13. SA 135-4published at 13.4 overs

I think that one has landed in Cardiff.

Another gigantic six from Tristan Stubbs as the ball disappears out of the ground!

  14. SA 129-4published at 13.3 overs

    Ha, that is outrageous.

Tristan Stubbs is back on one knee as he gives himself some room outside off stump and smashes Adil Rashid through extra cover for four.

    This boy can play.

  16. 6 runs

    SA 124-4published at 12.5 overs

What a shot that is. It isn't the worst delivery in the world from Chris Jordan but Tristan Stubbs, almost dismissively, pulls him for another huge six.

  17. Postpublished at 21:16 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

I don't think he will be relatively unknown for long if he keeps batting like this.

    Colin Ingram
Former South Africa batter on BBC Two

Tristan Stubbs is relatively unknown. He's only played 20 or so T20s but he's made his mark with fast knocks.

He is a really exciting prospect for South Africa and this is his chance to stake a claim.
