Remarkably in all the carnage George Scrimshaw has bowled three overs for just 13 runs.

First boundary off George Scrimshaw as Rilee Rossouw gets hold of him.

Still only eight off it though.

Derbyshire need a couple of wickets to get themselves back into this game.

Somerset are in a very strong position. They are going at 10 runs an over, have nine wickets left and have two players in going extremely well.

Dare you say they are aiming for something bigger than 200?

Anything under would be a huge disappointment.

    Somerset 131-1 (12 overs) v Derbyshire

    The runs are flowing now.

The most expensive so far as Tom Banton and Rilee Rossouw get stuck in.

Two sixes in that one. 23 off it.

Actually it's only 21 after a recount, following a boundary rope check. But still not good.

    Key paceman George Scrimshaw returns.

    Somerset 110-1 (11 overs) v Derbyshire

    Tom Banton's half-century.

33 balls. Four fours, three sixes from the England white-ball man. But dropped on 29. How costly will that miss prove to be?

Mattie McKiernan has another go at trying to stem the tide.

The over mercifully has come to an end. That is the second over that has cost 19.

    Somerset 99-1 (10 overs) v Derbyshire

Huge over for Somerset. Another 19 from it. Just like the 4th over.

Successive boundaries off Luis Reece by Rilee Roussouw - the second of them a full toss which goes for a four, initially ruled as a six, and is also adjudged a new ball. 10 off the first two balls, then a free hit. And a six off the penultimate ball.

    Mark Watt comes back on.

Another decent Derbyshire over. Only six off it.

    Tidier from Mattie McKiernan.

Luis Reece is next to have a bowl.

Rilee Roussouw ends the over with a nice legside boundary. Nine off it.

    Mattie McKiernan comes back on.

  10. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 19:31 British Summer Time 9 July 2022

    Somerset 65-1 (7 overs) v Derbyshire

Tom Banton is badly dropped on 29 by Ben Aitchison in the gully.

Oh Lawks! That was a dolly at this level.

Banton takes advantage by going down town for another four - one bounce over the rope.

Alex Hughes is on. "Slower than he looks," chuckles BBC Radio Derby's always highly entertaining Dave Fletcher.

  11. Postpublished at 19:28 British Summer Time 9 July 2022

The powerplay is over. Six off that one. Mark Watt comes back on.

    Somerset 49-1 (5.1 overs) v Derbyshire

George Scrimshaw built the pressure - and Will Smeed takes the bait, as he balloons one back to Ben Aitchison, who takes a comfortable catch.

Great response from the fired-up Falcons.

Hampshire old boy Rilee Rossouw is the new Somerset man in.

    Somerset 49-0 (5 overs) v Derbyshire

George Scrimshaw's pace and height clearly causing problems.

The Somerset openers have clearly not worked him out yet.

Just one run off it. Quite remarkable!

Only five off his first two overs.

One more left in the Powerplay. Ben Aitchison to bowl it.

  14. Postpublished at 19:17 British Summer Time 9 July 2022

    Somerset 48-0 (4 overs) v Derbyshire

Two fours in three balls for Will Smeed off legspinner Mattie McKiernan.

Ouch for Derbyshire. Especially when Tom Banton crashes another one - and then hammers a towering legside six.

19 off the over. Double Ouch!

George Scrimshaw returns. Can he put the brakes on?

  15. Postpublished at 19:14 British Summer Time 9 July 2022

    Somerset 29-0 (3 overs) v Derbyshire

Glorious, sunny evening. Not all the shots are quite so glorious though, notably Will Smeed's wild yahoo off Ben Aitchison over mid on, followed by a much better looking hook for four.

Then came successive wides, the second of them ludicrously harsh, and another Banton boundary. 14 off it.

Leggie Mattie McKiernan is next into the attack.

  16. 6 runs

    Somerset 15-0 (2 overs) v Derbyshire

First boundary hoiked over square leg for four by Tom Banton, followed by a superb reverse sweep for six.

But also three dot balls. 11 off it.

Ben Aitchison comes on to bowl the next one.

  17. Postpublished at 19:05 British Summer Time 9 July 2022

    Somerset 4-0 (1 over) v Derbyshire

    Sound start from George Scrimshaw.

Four runs off it, including a no ball, from the moustachioed pace menace.

Next up to bowl is Scotland's Mark Watt.

  18. Here we go again . . .published at 19:01 British Summer Time 9 July 2022

Somerset v Derbyshire Falcons (18:30 BST)

Somerset openers Will Smeed and Tom Banton are out there.

And George Scrimshaw has the ball in his hand from the River End to bowl to Smeed.

He starts with a no-ball, way over Smeed's head.

Second ball has Smeed in all sorts of trouble. Much better.

    And then the third too.

Nice start for the new England Lions man.

Weather Outlookpublished at 18:55 British Summer Time 9 July 2022

Somerset v Derbyshire Falcons (18:30 BST)

After successive evenings of glorious sunshine in Birmingham and Manchester, it's another lovely summer's night down in the Quantocks.

The BBC weather app for Taunton forecasts "blue skies and extensive sunshine, with little to no cloud around" and that "it will remain dry throughout" - with temperatures still touching close to 25 degrees around opening fireworks time.

Plenty of white floppy Wurzels hats and liquid refreshment on hand then.
