    Andrew Moore

    BBC Test Match Special

The importance of Sri Lanka hanging in here is all about net run-rate. Coming into today, Sri Lanka's was second best in the group.

    Stuart Clark

Former Australia fast bowler on Test Match Special

Shanaka has got to get himself up the order. There's no point in him batting here.

  3. SL 91-8

Shanaka keeps going for Sri Lanka, pulling Ferguson away over fine leg for four. The skipper has batted well but after slipping to 8-4, it was always going to be a mammoth task getting Sri Lanka anywhere close to New Zealand's total.

Dennis Ethan: The bowling unit of New Zealand will win them the 2022 T20 World Cup. Frightening!!!

  5. SL 82-8

    Target 168

With New Zealand set to go two points clear at the top of Group 1 with an extremely healthy net run-rate, they are now clear favourites to finish in top spot.

That leaves the rest battling it out for second. England face the Black Caps on Tuesday in Brisbane - that is a massive game. England need a big performance - and for the rain to stay away!

Wow, what a shot that was. He just picked it up and whooped it.

  7. SL 81-8

    Target 168

Superbly picked up by Dasun Shanaka and deposited into the crowd over deep mid-wicket!

The game is up for Sri Lanka but the skipper does his bit to help limit the damage to the net run-rate.

    Stuart Clark

He deserves a rest Glenn Phillips. He's been cramping up. A lot of it was running between the wickets with quick singles.

  9. SL 73-8

    Target 168

Perhaps still a little peeved by a misfield that allows a boundary from the first ball of the over, Lockie Ferguson ends it with a sharp bouncer that clocks Kasun Rajitha on the shoulder.

There is another slight concern for New Zealand as Glenn Phillips pulls up after running in to field. He heads off the pitch but is moving around well enough to suggest it is only cramp, the Kiwis will certainly hope that's all it is.

  10. SL 65-8

    Target 168

Kasun Rajitha plays out the rest of the over, helping Mitch Santner's economy rate a little more. Impressive figures of 2-21 from the spinner's four overs tonight.

    Alex Hartley

Former England bowler on BBC Test Match Special

A really poor shot to be playing. It grips a little but it's not a great shot.

  12. WICKET

    Theekshana c Neesham b Santner 0 (SL 65-8)

No mistake with the catch this time, well held at slip.

Maheesh Theekshana tries to muscle the ball away into the off side, there's a bit of turn and the edge is found. Neesham takes it well at slip and Santner has his second.

The end is nigh for Sri Lanka.

  13. Shanaka dropped on 14

    SL 65-7

A first blemish for New Zealand in the field as Dasun Shanka skies the ball and Mitch Santner gets himself in a tangle trying to take the catch off his own bowling.

Fortunately for the Black Caps, it is not likely to be as costly as those Sri Lanka drops.

  14. Post update

    Alex Hartley

Former England bowler on BBC Test Match Special

It's almost like if you're playing hockey and you jabbed the ball to the off side.

  15. Post update

    Henry Moeran

    BBC Test Match Special commentator

That really is a disappointing dismissal.

  16. WICKET

    Hasaranga c Williamson b Sodhi 4 (SL 64-7)

Slapped meekly to cover. Again a little short from Sodhi but Hasaranga tries to get it in front of square.

It results in an unorthodox and, ultimately, ineffective shot that sends the ball, at no great pace, into the hands of Kane Williamson at cover.

  17. SL 63-6

    Target 168

Two dot balls to finish the over. The required rate is heading towards 12 an over but it is doubtful whether Sri Lanka are seriously thinking about that target of 168 anymore.

  18. SL 63-6

    Target 168

Wanindu Hasaranga is the new batter for Sri Lanka and is off the mark with a boundary.

It's a sweep shot off Santner, not perfectly timed but it is in the gap and just beats Ferguson's despairing dive.

    Daniel Norcross

    BBC Test Match Special

This fightback was fun whilst it lasted but I'm afraid it was brief.

  20. WICKET

    Rajapaksa c Williamson b Ferguson 34 (SL 58-6)

That might just do for New Zealand, a sixth wicket on the stroke of drinks.

Bhanuka Rajapaksa had hit one boundary already in Lockie Ferguson's over and tries to hit another over mid-off.

However, the ball hits high on the bat and loops nicely to Kane Williamson on the edge of circle. Sri Lanka's danger man has gone and their hopes of victory go with him, you'd think.
