  1. Post update

    Alex Hartley

Former England bowler on BBC Test Match Special

It's been a sloppy three overs from New Zealand. There's been no pressure which has slightly allowed Sri Lanka back into the game.

  2. Post update

As starts to run-chases go, it doesn't get much worse than slumping to 8-4 inside four overs.

Tim Southee got things started for New Zealand before Trent Boult took over to rock Sri Lanka...

  3. SL 52-5

    Target 168

This is much better from Sri Lanka, Rajapaksa and Shanaka are starting to build a useful partnership as we approach the halfway stage of the innings.

It would still require something very special to win from this position but the situation is slightly less grim than it was a couple of overs back.

    Daniel Norcross

    BBC Test Match Special

Is there anyway back for Sri Lanka? They will need to think about net run rate to give themselves some hope.

  5. SL 48-5

    Target 168

Flighted by Santner and Shanaka is down the pitch to meet it on the full, drilled through the covers for four.

    Lovely shot.

  6. SL 43-5

    Target 168

Four more! Too short again from Sodhi and this time Rajapaksa thumps it away behind point.

A good over for Sri Lanka, 13 from it and they need plenty more like that if they are to pull off the most dramatic of comeback wins.

    Daniel Norcross

    BBC Test Match Special

Is this the start of a fightback?

  8. SL 36-5

    Target 168

That has gone miles! Drag down to start from Ish Sodhi and Rajapaksa nails it over deep mid-wicket and into the stand!

  9. SL 30-5

    Target 168

As bad as it looks for Sri Lanka, they have no real option but to keep going and believe they can win this match.

Their net run-rate will take a big hit regardless of whether they go down swinging and are bowled out or bat out the overs and finish miles off the target.

    BBC Test Match Special

A fortuitous boundary, but a boundary nonetheless.

  11. SL 28-5

So nearly two in two for Santner! Dasun Shanaka was tempted into the drive and the ball flew off the outside edge, just past slip and away for four.

  12. WICKET

    C Karunaratne c Boult b Santner 3 (SL 24-5)

Boult in the action again, this time taking a simple catch in the deep. Mitchell Santner strikes first ball and Sri Lanka lose another one.

It wasn't a great delivery from the left-arm spinner. Too short but Chamika Karunaratne couldn't get enough on the pull shot and Boult takes it a yard or so off the rope at deep mid-wicket.

    BBC Test Match Special

What a fantastic duo Boult and Southee have been.

  14. SL 24-4

    Rajapaksa 12, C Karunaratne 3

The powerplay finishes with another very tidy over from Trent Boult. No wicket in this one - his standards are slipping clearly - but only four runs from it.

The worm shows Sri Lanka are one run behind New Zealand. Sri Lanka are 24 for 4 after 6 overs. At the same stage New Zealand were 25 for 3.

    BBC Test Match Special

If New Zealand win you can forget any idea of Australia and England getting through. It'll be New Zealand and one other.

  16. SL 20-4

    Target 168

Another glorious shot follows that six, Rajapaksa hitting up and over extra cover for four.

This is more like it from Sri Lanka. They're in a big, big hole at the moment but just a little sign of life in that over.

The worm shows Sri Lanka are one run ahead of New Zealand. Sri Lanka are 20 for 4 after 5 overs. At the same stage New Zealand were 19 for 3.

Hold a pose, too, for the cameras. Very nice.

Bhanuka Rajapaksa. That was as good as any shot we have seen today. That's a six. What a shot out of nowhere!

  19. SL 14-4

    Target 168

Wow, what a shot that is from Bhanuka Rajapaksa!

Short and a bit of width from Lockie Ferguson and Bhanuka nails it over backward point - it goes very flat but the pace of Ferguson combined with the short boundary means it carries all the way for six!

  20. SL 8-4

    Target 168

Nearly a run out to end the over!

This time it is Chamika Karunaratne, riding a short ball and dropping it into the leg side. He sets off for one, is quickly sent back but still a direct hit from sub fielder Martin Guptill might have done for him.

    New Zealand have been excellent.
