Tector c Southee b Santner 2 (Ire 73-3)
Even MORE rebuilding is needed now. Harry Tector goes as he looks to swipe a wide ball through the covers but can only top-edge the ball straight to Tim Southee at point.

Both England and Australia can join them on that tally, and net run-rate will decide who goes through, but Kiwis are well placed

Those quick wickets have changed the complexion of this match as we reach the halfway stage.
Paul Stirling and Andrew Balbirnie had set a decent platform but some rebuilding is now needed.
Ireland were ahead of the run chase after eight overs but the loss of two quick wickets will put New Zealand back on top.

We needed those wickets, it was starting to get a little bit tight there.

That's the celebrations we wanted to see after the first wicket. It doesn't really spin from Sodhi, the ball just skids on and that is the wicket New Zealand wanted.
Stirling b Sodhi 37 (Ire 70-2)
Bowled 'im!
A huge wicket for New Zealand as Ish Sodhi gets one to skid on and it beats Paul Stirling's defences as he went for a huge heave.
Both Ireland openers out in quick succession.
Lorcan Tucker is the new batter fresh from hitting that brilliant unbeaten 71 from 48 balls against Australia earlier this week.
Something similar is needed here.

No celebration from Santner. The ball does grip ever so slightly and Balbirnie gets the edge onto his stumps. Perhaps not the way the bowler wanted it but it still goes down as bowled.
Balbirnie b Santner 30 (Ire 68-1)
Andrew Balbirnie chops on!
The Ireland captain cannot believe it as he goes for the cut but can only chop the ball into the ground and it bounces back onto his stumps.

That is a great shot from Balbirnie. Pace taken off it again and I'm not sure that is the ball to be bowling, especially with that short leg-side boundary.
And again!
Andrew Balbirnie goes for the slog-sweep once more seeking that short boundary on the leg-side and it clears the rope!
Ireland are right in this.

Balbirnie was in position for the sweep and it just cleared the fielder at deep mid-wicket.
He has middled that one though.
Andrew Balbirnie has just launched Ish Sodhi over deep mid-wicket for six!

None down is crucial. We saw in the first innings that the introduction of spin got Finn Allen going and here we've seen it get Paul Stirling and Andrew Balbirnie going. This over from Ish Sodhi is going to be very interesting.
Close! Andrew Balbirnie reaches to drag the ball from off to on and the ball goes airborne, but fortunately for the Ireland captain it bounces just short of Glenn Phillips, who was diving forward.

You could see it coming, something was going to happen and how well did Stirling hit that?
It was coming!
Paul Stirling has threatened to go big and he finally does, slog-sweeping new bowler Mitchell Santner over mid-wicket for six to bring up the Ireland 50.

Lockie Ferguson is varying his pace effectively making it tough for the Ireland batters to time the ball.
Just three singles off the over as Ireland reach 39-0 after the powerplay.

It was pace off and credit to Stirling, he waited on it and was able to get it away behind square.
