Manchester Originals smacked 208-5 - a record total in the men's Hundred - as they beat Northern Superchargers by 23 runs to keep their qualification hopes alive.

It meant they beat the previous record set by the Superchargers, when they made 200-5 in the same fixture last year.

England opener Phil Salt made 55 off 25 balls, while stand-in captain Laurie Evans (45 off 19 balls), Tristan Stubbs (46 off 23) and Phil Walter (26 off 12) all impressed.

In reply, Superchargers were always slightly behind the game, but did get the scenario down to 65 needed off the final 20 balls, largely in part to Adam Lyth's 46 off 24.

Adam Hose crashed 59 off 27 balls as Superchargers reduced their target to 47 off 15 and 36 from 10 balls but West Indies' Andre Russell, playing in his final game before returning home, bowled the final 10 deliveries, conceding just nine runs off the bat.

It meant Superchargers finished on 185-7, with fans piling out of Headingley when David Wiese was dismissed in the penultimate set by Russell.

Originals move to six points and still have a chance of reaching the knockout stages, but Superchargers are all-but eliminated, having won just two of their first six games.

    Here's what else happened:

    • Namibia international Wiese recorded the worst bowling figures in the competitions history, taking 1-53 from his 20 balls. Steven Finn was the previous holder of that unfortunate record, going for 2-51 from 15 balls in the same fixture last year.
    • Originals hit 16 sixes in their record score - a competition record.
    • Walter was the pick of the Originals bowlers, taking 3-27 from his 20 balls, while Ireland international Josh Little took 2-21 on debut.
    • The Superchargers have lost all three of their matches at Headingley.

    What's next?

Northern Superchargers are next in action on Friday when they travel to Welsh Fire.

Manchester Originals have a week off before going to Edgbaston to play Birmingham Phoenix next Sunday.

Monday sees Welsh Fire host Southern Brave with both the women's (15:00 BST) and men's (18:30 BST) games available on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer.

Match Hero Phil Salt talking on Sky Sports: "We know coming here it's a good wicket. Obviously I made the move up to the North group this year and so I've found out just what a good wicket it is. It's key to get a good start and we did that and Laurie played really well.

"I think it's around how many balls you get on strike versus your match-up. I know that's what we do. We try and aim at it and do it that way. It can vary and today was one of those days we got the match-ups too.

"You've got the best view as wicketkeeper and the best view of everything and I think Laurie handled it [being captain] really well today.

"It was really important [to win tonight]. The Superchargers got one up on us at Old Trafford so it was good to come here and balance that out again. We're peaking at the right time and playing good cricket and have got nothing to lose really."

Valiant effort from the Superchargers to be fair. Lyth, Hose and Weise played really well. But they'll probably be looking at their fielding performance and be thinking where they could've hidden another 20 runs away.

That is the end of the game. That is the end of the Superchargers as well. Their chances of qualification are over.

Another great yorker from Russell - his final contribution to this year's tournament.

In the end it's a comfortable win for the Originals, although they had a few scares along the way from Adam Lyth and Hose.

They've missed the cut-off time by a mile so they're going to be punished by needing to have an extra man in the ring. Will that be a factor?

It was a really good innings from Hose. He's kept them in it to be honest. Now it's up to the two experienced guys in Bravo and Weise to do it.
