  1. Brave 29-2published at 20 balls

Smriti Mandhana is starting to click and go through the gears now.

She sweeps away for four, before gracefully moving down the pitch and placing Georgia Davis down the ground for a one-bounce four.

Rockets will want her wicket quickly.

Manchester Originals men’s players Phil Salt and Matt Parkinson are watching this game from their hotel balcony.

Their room is a few doors down from the ones which have been taken over by the BBC TV and radio commentary teams.

That was very delicate from Mandhana! It's a good wicket to be playing that late cut. This is a complete shift of tactics from Trent Rockets. No Katherine Brunt into the attack yet.

  4. Brave 19-2published at 15 balls

Bryony Smith returns for Trent Rockets.

It is going to be interesting to see how Southern Brave approach this now. Smirit Mandhana and Tahlia McGrath are naturally aggressive batters but it feels like Brave need to rebuild a little bit here.

Mandhana shows a lovely bit of touch to bring up her first boundary. She's going to be key here.

Trent Rockets are in the game. This was a bit of 'ultra positive' batting.

She showed her intent straightaway and got back-to-back boundaries. It looked like she wanted to keep going but never got to the pitch of that.

And all of a sudden, they are under pressure.

  8. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 9 balls

    Dunkley c Villani b Davis (Brave 9-1)

    This is soft.

Young spinner Georgia Davis comes on and she starts with three dots against Sophia Dunkley and that allows pressure to build up.

Dunkley looks to hit down the ground, but it is straight into the midriff of Elyse Villani.

    Rockets are on top early.

England captain on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Southern Brave need one of Smriti Mandhana or Sophia Dunkley to go big today.

Their middle order hasn't been needed much in the competition so far, so I think they'll struggle if neither of these two score.

This is how she bats! That's the mindset she has and is so strong down the ground. Great start for her.

  11. Brave 9-1published at 5 balls

Sophia Dunkley isn't going to waste any time.

She bunts her first ball back down the ground for four, before sweeping round the corner to the boundary.

She takes a big in-take of breath at the end of the set. She wants to compose herself.

You could hear the screams of celebration from the Rockets players at that wicket from the hotel. They enjoyed it!

That is a huge moment. It's the exact same way she got out against Northern Superchargers and what a great gamble that is from Elyse Villani.

It's a bit of a loose shot from Wyatt.

That was a great call to start with spin. It was a set play to get an early wicket here, forcing her to sweep. Trent Rockets will be over the moon with the start.

  15. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 3 balls

    Wyatt c Munro b Smith 0 (Brave 1-1)

    The risk pays off!

England opener Danni Wyatt looks to get down and sweep the ball away, but she doesn't time it properly at all.

It comes off the top edge and goes straight up in the air and Sophie Munro, who has come into the side today, takes a good catch.

It's a risk going with Bryony Smith, who is more of a part-time spinner, but Smriti Mandhana and Danni Wyatt both got out to spin in that defeat against Northern Superchargers so it's a risk worth taking.

The two sides are out in the middle.

Trent Rockets are going to start with the off-spin of Bryony Smith.

Danni Wyatt can struggle early against spin at times.

Danni Wyatt is bounding out of the tunnel. She's been a key performer for Southern Brave at the top of the order with Smriti Mandhana.

Every time Southern Brave have won the toss across two years of The Hundred, they've chosen to bowl first.

So Elyse Villani has taken a bit of a gamble but I think it's the right call. Brave are such a strong batting line-up that you've got to put them on the back foot any way you can.

  20. Match-up: Middle-order powerpublished at 14:58 British Summer Time 2 September 2022

Today's teams are stacked with talent so picking out two players to focus on was a tough challenge.

However, we've eventually gone with the England duo of Sophia Dunkley and Nat Sciver.

Southern Brave's Dunkley, who we should expect to come in when the first wicket falls, has scored 159 runs in the tournament so far, at a strike-rate of 118.65.

Sciver has made 156 runs and taken five wickets for Trent Rockets.

Both will bring plenty of power with the bat and are electric in the field so they should be involved throughout the game.
