  1. Originals crumble as Brave remain unbeaten

Amanda-Jade Wellington and wicketkeeper Carla Rudd hug as Southern Brave celebrate a wicket

Southern Brave continued their unbeaten run in the women's Hundred with a 10-run win over Manchester Originals.

India's Smriti Mandhana struck 43 from 25 balls as Brave looked set up for a big first-innings total.

But Sophie Ecclestone took the key wickets of her England team-mates Danni Wyatt and Sophia Dunkley to restrict Brave to 136.

Originals began their chase comfortably, reaching 102-2, with England opener Emma Lamb scoring 57.

But they lost six wickets for just 24 runs as they slumped to a disappointing defeat, Brave leg-spinner Amanda-Jade Wellington claiming three wickets.

    What else happened?

    • England opener Danni Wyatt made 31, adding 64 for the first wicket with Mandhana.
    • Lizelle Lee scored 25 from 16 balls as she kickstarted the chase with Lamb, but no other batter made more than 12 as Originals finished on 128-8.
    • The game was the highest attendance for a women's domestic match at the Ages Bowl, with 8,788 spectators.

    What's next?

    • The Originals' next game is against Northern Superchargers on Sunday 21 August at Headingley, while Southern Brave travel to Cardiff to take on Welsh Fire on Monday 22 August.
  2. 'We stuck at it'

    Anya Shrubsole

Southern Brave captain Anya Shrubsole, speaking to Sky Sports: "I'm really proud of the girls. That was a game we probably didn't deserve to win but we stuck at it. We knew there were some key wickets. Credit to [Amanda-Jade] Wellington for getting the key wickets of Lee, Dottin and Ecclestone.

"We just hung on in there and got over the line.

"I largely let [Wellington] get on with it, she knows her game really well. She's a really quality leg-spinner. She loops it up, it's a style of bowling I think the English players aren't used to. She's our main wicket-taking threat."

  3. Post update

    Amanda-Jade Wellington

Hero of the match Amanda-Jade Wellington of Southern Brave, who took for 3-27, speaking to Sky Sports: "I was nervous but confident bowling near the end. We are having a great start to the tournament.

"Smriti Mandhana and Danni Wyatt set the pace for us. We've been in that situation before. With 100 balls you never know what can happen but we took our opportunity.

"At the moment I am using my wrong 'un and it's working - I feel I am bowling well. To get two top players out like Lizelle Lee and Deandra Dottin was crucial. They are two big wickets. We saw the pitch turning and knew they would hit square which they did."

You sense there might be an inquest from the Manchester Originals after that one.

They crashed, crumbled and capitulated to defeat.

A third on the spin for Southern Brave. Applause rings around the venue, they've turned this game around. It looked like it was going the way of Manchester Originals, but they kept on plugging away and taking wickets.

  7. WICKET

Griffith run out (McGrath) 2 (Originals 126-8)

Eleanor Threlkeld hammers the ball straight. Too straight in fact, and Tahlia McGrath deflects the ball on to the stumps to run out the unfortunate Cordelia Griffith at the non-striker's end.

Bowling this last set, there's no better feeling than when it becomes mathematically impossible.

  9. Originals 126-7

Eleanor Threlkeld manages to get a boundary.

    11 off three.

  10. Originals 121-7

16 runs off five balls. Unlikely, but not impossible.

Mandhana's hands have been like a magnet today.

  12. WICKET

    Cross c Mandhana b Bell 1 (Originals 118-7)

Slower ball from Lauren Bell and Kate Cross can only spoon the ball into the hands of Smriti Mandhana.

    Carlos Brathwaite

Just feel as though they've lost a little bit of momentum. Two batters at the crease, and over two runs needed per ball.

  14. Originals 118-6

19 runs needed of 10 balls.

Mandhana, who has shown safe hands at mid-off today, had a lot of time to think about that.
