  1. England lead 1-0 in two-Test seriespublished at 03:26 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2023

England have done it again. They've won 10 of 11 Tests under Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum, including the last six in a row.

Not only that, they're also the great entertainers of Test cricket.

You can read Stephan Shemilt's report on how Jimmy Anderson wrapped up their latest victory here.

We'll be back for the second Test in Wellington from Thursday. Join us again for that!

  2. 'Hard not to enjoy your cricket in this team'published at 03:20 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2023

More from Ben Foakes on his batting: "We batted normally but then as we got closer to [the third session] and we were in a position when we were six or seven down, it was a discussion about how we could stretch it out so we had that new ball for as long as possible after dinner.

"That was definitely a plan and it worked quite well."

On competition for places: "It's such a good, tight-knit group. It's never nice not to play but I understood the reasons in Pakistan. It's a great opportunity whenever you do get to play.

"It's a hard environment not to enjoy your cricket so I'm just enjoying it."

On the second Test: "Potentially they'll be a little bit more grass with the red ball. That's the most likely scenario."

  3. 'Attacking style helped us pick and choose when to bowl'published at 03:18 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2023

England wicketkeeper Ben Foakes, speaking to BT Sport: "Coming back today we knew that it could be hard work.

"Obviously we did a lot of the damage last night but it went a bit quicker than we thought so that's always a nice touch.

"The manner in which we've played has allowed us to pick and choose when we ball, which in a pink ball Test is crucial.

"Being able to wipe out a very good top-order by bowling under lights has been massive for us."

On keeping to Stuart Broad: "I think all of them but when Broady gets on that roll, Popey said he tried to talk to him last night but he was zoned out in his own space, in that rhythm and he's almost unstoppable.

"I got told to come up to the stumps - I didn't want to but you have to do what you're told!"

These conditions have suited that attack very well. Next week with the red ball they might look at someone with an extra bit of pace for the variety of attack. That is not saying these guys have done anything wrong. I think they will potentially look at that.

The big change in this side is the ability to take 20 wickets abroad, something we have really struggled with over the last 10 years. They have done it four times in a row.

Ben Stokes on Harry Brook: "Brooky is just carrying on from his amazing series in Pakistan. He is a fantastic talent.

"I think he will go on to be a global superstar.

"The more senior guys with the bat have to take lot of credit for allowing the young guys go out and express themselves."

  7. 'Tough for anyone when Jimmy and Broady have the new ball talking'published at 03:09 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2023

More from England captain Ben Stokes: "The most pleasing thing was whatever New Zealand threw at us with the ball we managed to react to that. It was entertaining cricket. Even though we came away with the result it [entertaining] is what we want to do."

On maximising the time bowling with the new ball under lights: "That is a tactical thing around these day-night games, really looking to take advantage of the new ball under lights.

"The way we set the game up and the pace we scored at allowed us to get ahead of the game.

"320 on the board is a good score anywhere and we were able to inflict some hard damage with the new ball on day one and the same last night.

"It is tough for anyone when Jimmy and Broady have the new ball talking like they did."

  9. 'You'll upset Brendon'published at 03:05 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2023

England captain Ben Stokes asked at the presentation about Bazball rolling on: "We need to stop calling it that. You will upset Brendon."

    Ben Ball then? "Even worse."

On his team's performance: "Another great performance - very clinical with the bat and very clinical with the ball. When you look at the bowling attack with the pink ball under the lights, we executed everything we wanted. To have Jimmy and Stuart Broad in your bowling attack is always going to be tough for the opposition."

  10. 'England got their strategy right'published at 03:02 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2023

New Zealand captain Tim Southee: "Disappointing but credit to England, strategically they played it pretty well.

"We were on the receiving end of a couple of night periods that obviously weren't ideal.

"You look back in hindsight but we made the decision to bowl first thinking it was the right one. The way that they batted and the rate that they batted put them in a position to declare that night.

"You can look back on it but the decision was right if we could've bowled a little bit better on the first day.

"The style they play is going to present opportunities and we saw that in the first innings. We got nine wickets in the end and second innings we got all 10 - but it's about stopping the bleeding in between.

On second innings collapse: "Broady last night came in and it was pretty impressive but if we'd have got through last night, we knew there weren't any demons today.

"It's credit to the way they bowled under lights last night.

"We've got a couple of days now to look forward to a different challenge, back to red-ball cricket at the Basin Reserve. The guys are looking forward to getting back there."

  11. 'The most fun I have had'published at 02:57 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2023

Player of the match, England batter Harry Brook: "There was probably no standout performer in the game. I think we all contributed extremely well, especially the bowlers on a fairly docile pitch in the first innings with the sun out. We stuck at it and we were outstanding.

"It was a good pitch. Obviously I stuck to my strengths and kept on trying to whack it. The way we have been playing over the last eight or nine months is about trying to put as much pressure on the bowler as we can and trying to hit them off where they are bowling.

"I struck it well yesterday but on another day it might not have come off."

On playing in the England set up: "It is some of the most fun I have had. Every time I go out to bat I'm really excited to go out and do whatever I want. I was lucky enough to start in Pakistan where I had a bit of experience and success."

England won the parts of the game they needed to. They showed the Bazball effect of scoring quickly to have the opportunity to bowl under the lights.

Brilliant performance. At the beginning of the match England were moaning about the pink ball. I think they might have changed their opinion a little bit.

    A very dominant display.

Fitting that Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad end up with four wickets each in the innings in which they became Test cricket's most prolific bowling partnership.

Also, Anderson is now just 26 wickets behind Shane Warne's 708...

Another comprehensive England win. The last wicket took a bit longer than some of us would have liked but they have outplayed New Zealand at Mount Maunganui and go 1-0 up in the two-match series.

Bowled 'im! Jimmy Anderson finishes it off!

A fourth of the day for England's record wicket-taker as Tickner, backing away somewhat after a few bouncers, has his off stump pegged back by a fuller ball.

SIX Test match wins in a row for Ben Stokes' England.

Mitchell can't get the last ball through the in-field, no run and Anderson will get another crack at Tickner.

While we wait for a change of ball, I'd just like to remind those of you wanting England to get this match finished off quickly that the delay is entirely the fault of Alex (01:29).

    NZ 122-9published at 44 overs

England need one wicket to win

Anderson is really working Tickner over with some short stuff.

He whacks the tailender on the forearm and generally has him looking uncomfortable but still no wicket.

A big smile from Tickner when the over comes to an end.
