Stafanie Taylor is looking in good touch, which is a welcome sight for West Indies.

She opens the face and plays an wonderful shot over the cover fielder and away for four.

    That was perfect placement.

  3. WI 59-1published at 11 overs

Stafanie Taylor looks annoyed with herself as a short and wide delivery from Renuka Thakur to end the over should have been put away but the ball goes straight to the fielder.

    She does! That was gorgeous.

It is in the slot from Renuka Thakur and Stafanie Taylor plays a glorious cover drive away for four.

There was not much foot movement but the timing was impeccable.

It will be interesting to see if Stafanie Taylor will try an access that offside area.

  7. WI 53-1published at 10 overs

    That's a good shot.

West Indies have profited from the sweep-shot this innings and that continues as Shemaine Campbelle sweeps Rajeshwari Gayakwad away to the rope to bring up the West Indies 50.

We reach the halfway stage and it is time for drinks - and for the India players what looks like a tray of fruit is brought out.

You would have to be a quick eater to polish off an apple in the space of a drinks break.

There are no more pies in the rest of Radha Yadav's over but West Indies are still able to add four to the total.

This represents something of a recovery, though they will need to put their foot on the accelerator at some stage. The talk before the game was that around 130 was par on this surface.

  10. WI 44-1published at 8.1 overs

A complete freebie for Stafanie Taylor as new bowler Radha Yadav drops it in far too short and Taylor heaves the ball away for a one-bounce four.

    That was an absolute gift.

Stafanie Taylor needed to find that release shot.

  12. WI 40-1published at 8 overs

Deepti Sharma is giving the ball plenty of air as she tempts Stafanie Taylor into a couple of wayward drives.

That will make Taylor feel better though.

Sharma's line drifts to middle and leg, allowing the former captain to sweep backward of square for four.

Losing Hayley Matthews as early as West Indies did was a bit of a hammer blow.

Her wicket probably feels like five wickets. They have a lot of rebuilding to do.

India mixing things up as Shafali Verma becomes the fifth bowler of this innings already.

It is pretty risk-free stuff from West Indies as they focus on the ones and twos. Given they lost Hayley Matthews so early that is probably wise. They cannot afford to lose wickets in clusters so early.

We're going to see a lot more turn and bounce on the surface as this game and the tournament goes on.

This is good control from Deepti Sharma.

  17. WI 29-1published at 6 overs

There is another bowling change as Deepti Sharma comes into the attack.

She went for nearly 10 an over against Pakistan on Sunday but is on the money from the off here, finding a touch of turn with a teasing line outside off stump.

  18. Postpublished at 13:23 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2023

India made the perfect start to this match with West Indies captain Hayley Matthews dismissed with the first ball of the second over.

Shemaine Campbelle is showing some really good intent. Even when she missed the cut shot earlier so you can tell she wants to do well for the West Indies.

That's another good shot from Shemaine Campbelle as she sweeps new bowler Rajeshwari Gayakwad away fine for four. Gayakwad loses her line again a couple of balls later and Stafanie Taylor this time is able to sweep away to the boundary.

It then needs some hard running at point from Devilka Vaidya to prevent a third four of the over, but West Indies are still able to run three.

The camera focuses for a moment on India captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who has a face like thunder.
