    And Kent are now done!

Incredible burst from Essex, three wickets in six balls.

Simon Harmer skids one into Joey Evison looking to work to leg, misses, and looks plumb.

Just leaves Essex 30 to win.

    And another three balls later!

The field is back trying to give Matt Quinn a single.

Sam Cook goes back of a length so Quinn can easily let it go but Quinn awkwardly jabs at it and drags it into his stumps.

  3. wicket

WICKET Qadri c Harmer b SJ Cook 16published at 11:23 British Summer Time 22 July 2023

    Essex 458-8d v Kent 207 & 280-8

    Sam Cook strikes!

And it's the short ball that's done it.

A well-directed one has Hamidullah Qadri hopping and he can only paddle it around the corner to backward square leg.

Kent lead by just 29 with two wickets left.

    Middlesex v Surrey 12-1 (target 78)

A word for Tom Helm who took that last wicket, he now has seven for the match - as Sean Abbott does for Surrey.

Helm looks in the mood to take a few more.

    Essex 458-8d v Kent 207 & 280-7

Essex would have hoped to have got the job done last night but full credit here to Kent for 107 overs of resistance so far in this second innings.

Joey Evison is back out there having got through 136 balls so far and Hamidullah Qadri is the latest to join him. They lead by 29.

Sam Cook and Simon Harmer trying their best to take these final three wickets.

Could be a crucial morning in the title race if Surrey can dodge the weather to sneak victory at Lord's.

  6. wicket

WICKET Smith 1 c Robson b Helmpublished at 11:16 British Summer Time 22 July 2023

    Middlesex v Surrey 6-1 (target 78)

An early wicket for Middlesex - is the miracle on?!

Jamie Smith doesn't hang around long, he's gone for one from two balls with Tom Helm claiming the scalp.

Surrey are definitely not hanging around as new batter Will Jacks sprints out to join the action - they seem to have some fears about rain disrupting their victory plans.

  7. MIDDLESEX ALL OUT FOR 272published at 11:02 British Summer Time 22 July 2023

    Middlesex 238 & 272 v Surrey 433

    It took two balls!

Tim Murtagh gloves Sean Abbott's delivery to Dom Sibley in the slips and that's Middlesex's second innings over already.

Murtagh had an unenviable position this morning facing Abbott, who now has seven wickets in the match, and he could do little about that ball which had too much for him.

Surrey need only 78 to win.

They'll want to do it quickly with so much rain around though.

As forecast it's pretty miserable out there.

At Headingley, Cheltenham, Edgbaston and Derby, the prospects aren't great.

Thankfully it's dry in the south east of England at the moment so we should get some play between Middlesex and Surrey and Essex against Kent.
