All times stated are UK

  1. Bad light stops play at Canterbury

    Kent 494 v Lancashire 327 & 126-0

The players are heading off as the umpires get their light meters out.

Keaton Jennings and Luke Wells have held Kent up well in this innings, with Wells going past 10,000 first-class runs in his 69 not out.

  2. NOTTINGHAMSHIRE ALL OUT FOR 384

    Nottinghamshire 384 v Middlesex 366

Middlesex finally end the Notts first innings.

Jake Ball, in his final game for the club, is having some fun as he reverse sweeps Josh de Caires to the boundary.

But next ball, he tries to go big and he is caught in the deep for 11.

Middlesex trail by 18 at halfway.

  3. Post update

    Nottinghamshire 380-9 v Middlesex 366

A fine shot from Dane Paterson gets him four and off the mark.

Any run he gets only increases the frustration for Middlesex.

  4. WICKET Burns b Prest 27

    Hants v Surrey 54-3 (target 185)

That's a beauty from Tom Prest and just his second first-class wicket!

The off-spinner gets one to grip and turn away from the left-handed Rory Burns and bowls the skipper.

Surrey may be champions, but this game remains in the balance.

  5. WICKET Hutton c Roland-Jones b de Caires 26

    Nottinghamshire 375-9 v Middlesex 366

Josh de Caires tosses one up, Brett Hutton takes it on and holes out at long-off.

A very useful 26 for the number one.

Middlesex are one wicket away from batting again.

  6. 'He's been very tight-lipped'

    Is Alastair Cook retiring?

    Alastair Cook batting for Essex

Essex head coach Anthony McGrath has been talking about Alastair Cook's future following their defeat by Northants.

Reports have suggested Cook, who turns 39 on Christmas Day, might announce his retirement this winter but McGrath told BBC Essex no decision had been made.

"He’s been very tight-lipped, because he’s wanted it that way and particularly because we were going for the title," McGrath said.

"He hasn’t officially made his mind up, as far as I’m aware but if it is his last game, we’re going to miss him.

"In case it is, everyone was just giving him a clap.

“He wants to do it his own way, he did that with England and, with the amount of cricket he’s played and what he’s given to the game, he deserves that respect and I don’t think we should push him into it.

“I can’t speak highly enough of him. Hopefully we’ll see him for a bit longer but if not then the service he’s given to cricket, not just Essex, has been phenomenal.”

  7. WICKET Slater c Yadav b Helm 140

    Nottinghamshire 367-8 v Middlesex 366

And no sooner do Notts go in front and Ben Slater falls!

He takes on a full-blooded hook shot off Tom Helm but holes out at deep midwicket.

Still a terrific knock, facing 284 balls and batting for just over seven hours.

  8. Post update

    Hants v Surrey 40-2 (Target: 185)

It's now a dual spin attack for Hampshire with Tom Prest's off spin introduced.

But more positive signs for Surrey against Liam Dawson.

Sai Sudharsan has twice swept him nicely and Rory Burns has used his feet to strike cleanly over mid-on for four.

21 overs left in the day and 145 more runs needed by the champions.

  9. Notts lead

    Nottinghamshire 367-7 v Middlesex 366

Brett Hutton pulls out to the midwicket boundary and with that single, Notts are in front.

Number nine Hutton has 26 and the partnership is worth 48.

  10. for Keaton Jennings

    Kent 494 v Lancashire 327 & 115-0

Lancashire captain Keaton Jennings follows his opening partner into the book with a half-century.

It's a fifth 50 of the season for the left-hander.

  11. Post update

    Nottinghamshire 354-7 v Middlesex 366

Back-to-back boundaries from Ben Slater off Toby Roland-Jones takes him to 136 and his team within a dozen of Middlesex.

Not great from TRJ as he dropped short on both occasions.

  12. partnership

    Kent 494 v Lancashire 327 & 100-0

A nice landmark for Keaton Jennings and Luke Wells to clock up a century stand on their last partnership of the summer.

One of the most reliable on the county circuit.

This stand is giving Middlesex a bit of hope that Kent won't force a win at Canterbury.

  13. Is there a Norwell in Middlesex ranks?

    Nottinghamshire 342-7 v Middlesex 366

It's not quite last chance saloon for Middlesex, but it feels like we are not far away from it.

They are going to struggle to take a first innings lead, then they must score rapidly before bowling Notts out cheaply in their second dig.

A tall order, yes, but there is always hope.

Remember Warwickshire had to try to defend a target of just 139 against Hampshire 12 months ago.

They needed a hero and Liam Norwell stepped forward, taking 9-62 as the Bears won by only five runs to stay up and relegate Yorkshire.

Is there a Norwell figure ready to emerge in Middlesex colours?

  14. WICKET Smith lbw Abbott 7

    Hants v Surrey 21-2 (Target: 185)

Kyle Abbott into the attack and first ball gets smashes back past his shoulder by Jamie Smith!

But he then beats the bat and gets one to come back to beat the inside edge and with Smith stuck on the crease he's plumb lbw.

  15. Post update

    Nottinghamshire 339-7 v Middlesex 366

Jayant Yadav tosses one up and Brett Hutton fairly wallops it for six, having got four two balls before.

John Simpson is then appealing for a catch behind. Not out. A sign of desperation?

  16. for Luke Wells

    Kent 494 v Lancashire 327 & 94-0

Luke Wells pushes a single into the covers off Yuzvendra Chahal to get to his half century.

It has taken 78 balls and is a good fightback from Lancashire to eat away at their 167-run deficit at halfway.

It's a fourth 50 of the summer from Wells.

  17. Elsewhere...

Somerset's second innings is under way at Edgbaston after they bowled Warwickshire out for 273. The visitors are 39-1, having lost Tom Lammonby, and still trail by 19.

In Division Two Billy Root has just passed fifty for Glamorgan as the batters continue to dominate in their game against Derbyshire. Glamorgan are 294-4 and now only trail by 156.

Yorkshire declared their first innings on 262-6 against Worcestershire with a deficit of 127. The Pears are now 4-1 in their second inings and you feel Yorkshire might be chasing around 250/300 some time tomorrow.

At Hove, Gloucestershire have just lost their second wicket in pursuit of 513 to win - they're 29-2.

And bad light is still halting things between Durham and Leicestershire.

  18. WICKET Sibley c Brown b Dawson 2

    Hants v Surrey 12-1 (Target: 185)

This time Liam Dawson has struck!

A sharply turning ball away from Dom Sibley that grazes an edge through to Ben Brown.

Dawson into his fourth over and only conceded a single run.

It's a few months away but a chance to stake a claim for England's tour to India in the new year perhaps.

  19. Final session under way at Trent Bridge

    Nottinghamshire 319-7 v Middlesex 366

The start of session three at Trent Bridge. Middlesex must remove these three Notts wickets soon and then get batting.

  20. Gloucs set target of 513

    Sussex 202 & 505-7 dec v Gloucs 195 & 21-1

    Adrian Harms

    BBC Sussex

Sussex accelerating at a rate of knots after lunch adding 153 in quick time to set up a declaration

James Coles led the way with his 3rd century of the season, and Fynn Hudson Prentice blasted a quick fire 71 in just 35 balls including 5 sixes, his 9th half century of the season

Needing 513 to win Gloucestershire are already a wicket down, but remember in the last game here Leicestershire fell just 15 runs short of chasing down 499, and at one stage where 16-2!
