  1. Division Two updatepublished at 11:16 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

Derbyshire have lost their first wicket at Cardiff with Harry Came bowled by Kiran Carlson for 57. They are 132-1 - with Luis Reece 62 not out - 281 ahead of Glamorgan.

Worcestershire are putting their foot down against Yorkshire, who have part-timers Finlay Bean and James Wharton doing the bowling at Headingley, and are 149-2, a lead of 276.

Jake Libby is 69 not out and Jack Haynes, in his final innings for the Pears, has 70.

Gone! Horror dismissal for any batter.

Umar Amin has left it and the ball strikes off stump.

Ben Raine has 60 Championship wickets this season.

Louis Kimber is the new batter for Leicestershire.

  3. 150 runs

stand for Lancashirepublished at 11:11 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    Kent 494 v Lancs 327 & 156-0

Matt Quinn directs one into Luke Wells' pads and the left-hander lifts it over mid-wicket for four to bring up a 150 partnership with Keaton Jennings.

Another boundary follows to end the over and Wells moves into the 90s - a second Championship century of the season is there for the taking.

    Warwks 273 v Somerset 215 & 90-2

No guarantee play will resume at 12.40, sadly.

    Fingers crossed.

  5. wicket

    WICKET Shaw c Hudson-Prentice b Carson 18published at 11:06 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    Sussex v Gloucs 155-8 (target 513)

Josh Shaw has gone, driving spinner Jack Carson over the top and Fynn Hudson-Prentice runs around from long on to take the catch.

Zaman Akhter has replaced Shaw at the crease, so we can probably assume Ed Middleton is not going to don the pads this morning - and that means Sussex need just one more wicket.

  6. Postpublished at 11:04 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    Kent 494 v Lancs 327 & 141-0

Just the one boundary by Lancashire so far this morning.

Luke Wells has advanced to 78 not out and Keaton Jennings has 58.

With two Middlesex wickets gone in their game, it's all good for Kent at the moment - but they'd like a wicket or two.

  7. HAMPSHIRE BEAT SURREY BY 52 RUNSpublished at 11:03 British Summer Time 29 September 2023
    Breaking

    Surrey 132 - target 185

The field is spread for Sai Sudharsan...

He tries to heave Liam Dawson away through the leg side and gets a big top edge.

James Vince runs in from first slip to take the catch at forward short leg.

Liam Dawson finishes with 4-53 and 49 wickets for the season.

A disappointing end to an otherwise glorious season for Surrey, who now await the trophy presentation.

Hampshire win three on the bounce to end their campaign in third place.

  8. wicket

WICKET Holden c Ball b Hutton 11published at 11:03 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    Notts 384 v Middlesex 366 & 59-2

It's Jake Ball's final day as a Nottinghamshire player - and that catch is a pretty good way to sign off.

Ball races in from the third man boundary to take a tumbling effort as Max Holden slices a widish delivery from Brett Hutton.

That makes Hutton the County Championship's outright leading wicket-taker with 62, edging ahead of Essex's Simon Harmer.

  9. Postpublished at 10:59 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    Surrey 132-9 - target 185

We've got a pause in play here because it appears Sai Sudharsan has got a bit of a fracture on his bat.

No runs off the new blade just yet as he sweeps fine and there's no run.

    Surrey 132-9 - target 185

Dan Worrall is off the mark first ball with a lofted drive over mid off.

Bit of a loose shot, really.

Sai Sudharsan picks up four runs with a gorgeous drive through backward point with a deft roll of the wrists.

Might he slip into IPL batting mode here?

He'll keep the strike with a drive to cover for one.

  12. Postpublished at 10:56 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    Notts 384 v Middlesex 366 & 50-1

This feels a bit like the middle overs of a one-day match at the moment, with Sam Robson and Max Holden working the singles and punishing the odd stray delivery as they look to extend Middlesex's lead quickly.

Holden has just pummelled a Brett Hutton full toss to the boundary and the visitors have added 40 in the first six overs of the day - but they'll need a lot more before they can think about a declaration.

This could end in a hurry.

Liam Dawson has 48 wickets for the season and has a final shout for 50 before the end of this game.

    Oh, maybe not.

One ball after Sai Sudharsan picks up a single, Kemar Roach nicks one on the drive to James Vince at first slip.

Dan Worrall is the last batter in for Surrey, who have lost three in the blink of an eye.

  14. wicket

WICKET J Overton st Brown b Dawson 8published at 10:50 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    Surrey 125-8 - target 185

Sai Sudharsan gets a single off the first ball of Liam Dawson's second over this morning and Jamie Overton sweeps the spinner square for four.

He's giving Surrey some early momentum this morning.

    And now he's gone!

One ball after surviving an LBW shout, Overton goes for an almighty heave over long on, misses and is stumped by a country mile.

Hampshire keeper Ben Brown had plenty of time to effect the dismissal.

The new batter is Kemar Roach.

  15. Division Two updatepublished at 10:50 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

Durham are still waiting for their first wicket of the day at the Riverside. Leicestershire are 21-0 and need 293 more to avoid an innings defeat.

Worcestershire have avoided further damage so far against Yorkshire, adding five in four overs to their overnight 18-2. They are 150 ahead.

Derbyshire's openers are still together at Sophia Gardens - they are 90-0, with Luis Reece 43 not out, and 239 ahead of Glamorgan. How many do they want before the likely declaration?

  16. Postpublished at 10:46 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    Kent 494 v Lancashire 327 & 131-0

Confident lbw shout from Matt Quinn against Keaton Jennings but it's not given. May have been sliding past leg stump.

It's back to back maidens by Kent, but they want - and need - wickets, although a Middlesex wicket at Trent Bridge is good news for them.

  17. wicket

WICKET Stoneman c James b Hutton 14published at 10:45 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    Notts 384 v Middlesex 366 & 34-1

Brett Hutton's had a magnificent season and there's every chance of him finishing it as the County Championship's leading wicket-taker as he picks up his 61st of the campaign.

Mark Stoneman, who's already struck two boundaries this morning, swings Hutton to deep square leg, where Lyndon James takes the catch.

Middlesex lead by 16 as Max Holden makes his way to the middle.

  18. Postpublished at 10:45 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    Surrey 121-7 - target 185

This might be a brief innings from Jamie Overton.

He tries to cut a ball from Mohammad Abbas and is cramped for room, nearly getting a nick behind.

Mohammad Abbas is struggling a little for rhythm here and bowls a rare leg side ball for such a metronomic bowler.

An LBW shout is turned down. Too leg side.

Shot! Jamie Overton holds the pose with a delightful straight drive over the bowler's head for four runs.

    Showing the maker's name there.

  19. wicket

    WICKET M Taylor c Clark b Currie 0published at 10:44 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    Sussex v Gloucs 122-7 (target 513)

Two in three balls for Brad Currie!

Matt Taylor goes without scoring, with Tom Clark taking the catch at second slip.

Sussex need three more - or most probably, just two.

  20. Postpublished at 10:40 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    Surrey 116-7 - target 185

The new batter for Surrey is Jamie Overton, who survives a shout for caught behind off his first ball.

    Looks like he missed that.

There's been some turn in this surface and unsurprisingly, left arm spinner Liam Dawson is in the attack.

Sai Sudharsan sweeps the fifth ball for a couple.

His wicket is key for both sides.
