  1. Signing off

Rory Burn of Surrey and Durham's Scott Borthwick

Once again, the County Championship brings us incredible drama on the final day of the season.

Middlesex will play in Division Two next season despite a tremendous effort to force a win over Notts at Trent Bridge which would have kept them up and sent Kent down.

Meanwhile, there were contrasting fortunes for the two divisional champions as Surrey lost to Hampshire and Durham beat Leicestershire by an innings before the trophies were handed out.

Thanks for following our coverage throughout the season and for taking part in our Teams of the season vote - final XI here.

    Join us again next April.

  5. Post update

    Dave Bracegirdle

    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

"Lovely moment for Jake Ball. It's Notts who get over the line. You've got to feel for Sam Robson - what a day he's had."

  6. BreakingMIDDLESEX RELEGATED TO DIVISION TWO

    Notts 384 & 210-8 beat Middlesex 366 & 224-6 dec

The script was indeed written for Jake Ball, who signs off his Nottinghamshire career by hitting the winning runs, paddling Sam Robson for four in a tense finish.

The celebrations at Trent Bridge will be dwarfed by those in Kent, whose place in Division One is now secured for next season.

Despite taking it right to the wire, Middlesex fall short in their bid to stay in the top flight.

  7. BreakingGLAMORGAN DRAW WITH DERBYSHIRE

    Glamorgan 301-5 dec & 135-6 v Derbyshire 450-8 dec & 234-2 dec

Derbyshire end the season without a single victory to their credit as Glamorgan bat out for a draw at Sophia Gardens.

Chasing a target of 384 was never realistic, But the home side managed to keep the Derbyshire attack at bay over the course of 69 overs.

Luis Reece earlier hit his second century of the match - 119 not out - and passed 1,000 runs for the season in the process.

He also set a new club record of seven fifties in successive first-class innings.

  8. Post update

    Notts 206-8 (target 207) v Middlesex

Another single for Jake Ball off Jayant Yadav and the scores are now level.

Three overs left for Nottinghamshire to score one run, or for Middlesex to take two wickets.

  9. Post update

    Notts 205-8 (target 207) v Middlesex

Matthew Montgomery reverse sweeps Jayant Yadav again for a single and Nottinghamshire need two to win.

  10. Post update

    Kevin Hand

    BBC Radio London commentator

"They've tried everything, Middlesex. What an effort on the final day."

  11. Post update

    Notts 204-8 (target 207) v Middlesex

Another tense over as Jake Ball gets bat on, er, ball a couple of times but can't pierce the infield - and then there are a couple more from Sam Robson that beat the outside edge.

In the end, though, it's a maiden and we have four overs left. Three to win.

  12. Post update

    Dave Bracegirdle

    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

"Sam Robson on a five-for potentially. Still five overs left. 30 legal deliveries."

  13. Post update

    Notts 204-8 (target 207) v Middlesex

Matthew Montgomery sweeps the first ball of Jayant Yadav's over for a single and leaves Jake Ball to block the rest.

Ball must surely have been tempted to take a swing and claim the glory, but he plays it sensibly and then steers the fifth delivery away for one - which keeps him on strike with three runs needed.

  14. Post update

    Notts 202-8 (target 207) v Middlesex

Sam Robson turns the ball twice past Jake Ball's outside edge, but the Nottinghamshire No 10 survives.

    Five needed, two wickets remaining.

  15. Post update

    Dave Bracegirdle

    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

"Is the script written for Jake Ball in his last game for Nottinghamshire as he makes his way out to the middle?"

  16. Post update

    Kevin Hand

    BBC Radio London commentator

"It should still be Nottinghamshire's game but Middlesex are going to fight right to the last."

  17. BreakingYORKSHIRE BEAT WORCESTERSHIRE BY SIX WICKETS

    Yorks 262-6d & 363-4 v Worcs 389 & 232-2d

There it is! Courtesy of three successive boundaries by Jonny Tattersall!

He paddles sweeps the last ball of the 67th over for four and a topsy turvy Yorkshire season blighted by points deductions ends on a high!

Brilliant batting from Shan Masood, James Wharton, George Hill and Jonny Tattersall to complete Yorkshire's fourth-highest successful run chase of all time.

Worcestershire will join the first division next summer, while Yorkshire finish on 109 points, lifting themselves above Gloucestershire in the table.

Their batting looks to be in good order with a splendid mix of youth, experience and quality.

  18. WICKET Hutton c Simpson b Robson 17

    Notts 202-8 (target 207) v Middlesex

    Is there another late twist?

Brett Hutton goes for the big shot against Sam Robson that would take Nottinghamshire level and gets a thick edge through to the wicketkeeper.

Jake Ball comes in - his last appearance for Nottinghamshire. Surely the script is written here?

  19. Post update

    Yorks 359-4 - target 360

    Nearly there.

Tattersall lofts Baker over mid on for four.

    Scores level.

  20. Post update

    Yorks 355-4 - target 360

Josh Baker will continue from the Howard Stand and Tattersall pushes the first ball into the off side for a single.

George Hill is forward, driving down the ground for one more.

A play and miss outside off third ball but Tattersall nails the next one, smashing it down the ground for six!

    That takes Yorkshire past 350.

    5 to win.
