    Notts 168-7 (target 207) v Middlesex

Matthew Montgomery is playing it sensibly, just trying to knock these off in singles and he picks up two of them from this Sam Robson over.

The target is now just 39 away - but Nottinghamshire have only three wickets standing.

    Glamorgan 301-5 dec & 108-5 v Derbyshire 450-8 dec & 234-2 dec

Three successive maidens at Sophia Gardens.

Dan Douthwaite is 10 not out for Glamorgan, with Chris Cooke on six.

Brett Hutton's led the way with County Championship wickets this season - now Nottinghamshire need him to do a job with the bat.

Hutton's doing it at the moment as he plays out a maiden from Jayant Yadav.

Now then, if Worcestershire can prize Shan Masood out that could change the complexion of the game dramatically.

George Hill is off the mark, turning a short ball from Ben Allison off his hip for four.

Josh Baker gets a wicket off a short ball and this game is opening up!

Shan Masood pulls and is caught on the leg side boundary by Ben Gibbon.

Yorkshire's principal run scorers have fallen in successive overs.

It's been a magnificent innings from the Yorkshire captain but he would've wanted more.

The new batter is Jonathan Tattersall.

    Notts 165-7 (target 207) v Middlesex

Dear me, that could be costly for Middlesex.

Sam Robson attempts a googly and gets it horribly wrong as the ball races beyond John Simpson and away for five wides.

Matt Montgomery is still there for Nottinghamshire on 14 and probably needs to stay there if they're going to win this game - with 42 still needed.

Sam Robson has a third wicket!

The leg-spinner gets another to turn away from Calvin Harrison and hit the stumps - and all of a sudden Middlesex are three wickets away from survival.

You can only imagine how many sets of nails are being bitten at Canterbury right now...

  9. wicket

WICKET Wharton b Baker 89published at 16:38 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    Yorks 274-3 - target 360

And there's a breakthrough! James Wharton has gone.

Heartbreak for the young Yorkshire batter, agonisingly short of a maiden first-class century but he's played a blinder.

Wharton stays in the crease and an attempted cut through point results in a bottom edge into the stumps.

The new batter is George Hill.

Yorkshire still need 86. 15 overs left.

    Notts 156-6 (target 207) v Middlesex

Another big appeal, this time by Jayant Yadav, for leg before against Calvin Harrison, but the umpire is not convinced.

No surprise that Middlesex are appealing for everything at this stage and Harrison plays out a maiden.

Tension growing at Trent Bridge as Nottinghamshire inch towards what looked like a comfortable target at tea.

Sam Robson and Jayant Yadav hold the key for Middlesex's survival chances and the former has just had another big appeal turned down as Matt Montgomery tried to sweep and the ball flew to the close fielder, but off the pad rather than the bat.

    Notts 152-6 (target 207) v Middlesex

    Surely not...?

The Nottinghamshire wickets continue to tumble as Lyndon James departs, lbw to Jayant Yadav.

Notts still need 55 and Calvin Harrison is in now to join Matt Montgomery.

  14. Postpublished at 16:28 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    Yorks 267-2 - target 360

Yorkshire pass 250 serenely with a single pushed behind point off the the front foot by James Wharton.

The light is unlikely to intervene here and in fact these are the sunniest conditions we've seen in this game.

Four more runs to Shan Masood, back in his crease and pulling a short ball square.

Six runs off Ben Allison's over and Yorkshire are well up with the scoring rate required.

Josh Baker replaces Kashif Ali in the attack and Masood gets a single pushed into the leg side.

Wharton gets the equation below 100 required with a drive down the ground for four and repeats the stroke with more elevation for six.

The partnership is now worth 156 and Yorkshire need 93 in 17 overs.

Sam Robson has a second wicket!

Is there still hope for Middlesex?

Tom Moores sweeps the leg-spinner into the hands of deep midwicket and Nottinghamshire still need 56 to win this and send Middlesex down.

Lyndon James is the new man in to try and steady Notts' nerves.

  16. KENT DRAW WITH LANCASHIREpublished at 16:22 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    Kent 494 v Lancashire 327 & 390-8 dec

Now the waiting begins for Kent.

The teams shake hands on a draw and they must wait to see whether Middlesex can somehow conjure a victory over Notts.

It looked like Kent were heading for victory when Lancashire were 258-7, but a stand of 124 between Tom Bailey (78) and Josh Bohannon snuffed out any danger for the Red Rose.

Bohannon finishes on 68 not out as Lancashire take nine points from the game and Kent 12.

The BBC commentary team make reference to Ben Compton 'steaming in' at Canterbury - only if Thomas The Tank Engine has been driven onto the outfield and he jumped onto the footplate.

It's a maiden and it looks like both sides have accepted that this one is heading for Draw Town on the Island of Sodor.

Worcestershire have dispensed with their last slip, now moving to save one on the off side.

James Wharton sweeps the third ball of Kashif Ali's over in front of square, dissecting the leg side boundary fielders for four.

A single off the fourth ball and a long hop is smacked through mid wicket for four more by Shan Masood.

12 runs off that over and Kashif Ali may be out of the attack.

  19. Postpublished at 16:20 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    Notts 141-4 (target 207) v Middlesex

Sam Robson's bowling hasn't always been taken seriously throughout his career, but the part-time leg-spinner looks like Middlesex's best hope of pulling off a remarkable victory today.

Robson has been getting the ball to turn and there were nervous moments for both Tom Moores, who edged one just past short leg and Matt Montgomery, with one flying just short of slip in his last over.

  20. Durham 'deserve to be in Division One' - Bortwhickpublished at 16:17 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

Division Two champions Durham wrapped up an innings win over Leicestershire earlier on. Here's what captain Scott Borthwick had to say afterwards:

"I'm a little bit emotional but thrilled. To take this game into day four and get to win in front of the members and fans was special.

“It's my fourth trophy with the club and third in the County Championship. It feels a bit more special with me being captain, getting us back into Division One."

He added: "We're a big club and we deserve to be in Division One. With the talent of the players we have, we should be in Division One.

"We've got some good young players that have gone through the roof with their ability like Brydon Carse and Matthew Potts, two lads that have represented England over the last few weeks.

"We knew that we were going to be a good bowling unit with them and Ben Raine, who's a prolific Championship bowler. We also have talented batters, but it was all about going out there to do it and we've smashed it this season.”
