It was uncharacteristic to see her not get to 100 once getting in the 90s, to finally get out in that matter was a little bit disappointing, you would take 99 most days but you see her on the boundary up and about for the team, she just scores runs. She's contributed today. From an England point of view, I'd like to see them go back to their one day plans. They were aggressive in their field, just slow the game down. I would've liked to see Nat Sciver-Brunt come back in, she can do that stump to stump.

When you think of Ashes Test match cricket, you just picture Ellyse Perry scoring runs. Barring those two balls, she never looked like getting out. Today, she played different to normal, she was more aggressive and played shots.

Elysee Perry was the standout player with the bat for Australia on day one as she just fell short of a third Test century before a lapse in concentration gave debutante Lauren Filer (2-65) her second wicket.

I think they will be pretty happy with the total, I'm not sure too many Test matches have been lost when you get over 300 in a first innings. Pretty good effort from the Aussies.

I think there was a moment in the game where England got up and about and that's where the three wickets fell for 12 runs. Barring that, there was some ill-discipline from the bowlers. They will come out tomorrow hoping to knock off these wickets and get bowling.

I think England's batting has got the depth, a little bit concerning that the second spinner isn't really there for England and the workload for Ecclestone, bowling around a third of the overs today.

Sophia Dunkley had a bowl, Emma Lamb can bowl some offies as well.

I would've liked to see Nat Sciver-Brunt bowl more and give Sophie Ecclestone a break.

Sophie Ecclestone bowled 28 consecutive overs from one end. Kate Cross finally managed to bowl a maiden in the final over the day at 19:25.

England left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3-71 from a whopping 31 overs, including six maidens.

I think it is evenly poised. England will be thrilled that they bought back the scoring rate of Australia. Ecclestone was unbelievable, the overs she bowled, the wicket to take Healy was outstanding.

Just about Australia's day, perhaps? Not much in it. England can certainly feel happy with the way have grafted for wickets.

My highlight of the day was Phoebe Litchfield's debut, getting her opportunity. Ellyse Perry was magnificent getting 99. It was a bullet that went to Gully to Nat Sciver-Brunt.

  12. Aus 328-7 at stumpspublished at 19:25 British Summer Time 22 June 2023

Australia take a leg bye to leave Annabel Sutherland defend the final couple of balls of the day from Kate Cross.

    That's stumps.

England's players give each other pats on the backs as they walk off the field at Trent Bridge. They are pretty happy with their efforts having been asked to bowl first.

It's been a pretty good day with the bat for Australia, run rate ticking at just under four per over. England do have seven wickets though and if they get one more, it will be England's day.

  14. Aus 327-7published at 84.3 overs

Alana King leaves Kate Cross' first ball outside off stump, pushes her second to mid-off then digs out a yorker.

A boost for England a little while ago after Lauren Bell got the wicket of Ashleigh Gardner.

Can Kate Cross nip another Aussie batter out before the close?

  16. Aus 327-7published at 84 overs

Lauren Bell has the ball tailing into the batters but is unable to quite land it in the danger areas in her final over the day as Amy Jones has to scramble down leg side a couple of times.

Australia have more over in the day to survive.

In Cross' defence here, it's slightly overpitched but she will want Australia driving with the new ball. She just needs to bring her length back just a little bit.

  18. Aus 324-7published at 83 overs

Not quite happening for Kate Cross at the other end as Annabel Sutherland thumps her second delivery through the covers for four.

The new ball will give England a bit of movement but will find its away to the fence that little bit quicker, too.

Australia were heading for 400 the way they were go. England could well get a couple more quick wickets here. Second over into the new ball they get a wicket.

Ashleigh Gardner is back in the pavilion having been dismissed by Lauren Bell, but she did manage to hit the first six of the day a little while ago.
