That is such a beautiful strike from Buttler. It's gone high and gone hard.

  2. Post update

    Scott Read

    BBC Radio commentator

A monster way to reach 50 for Buttler. If you're in the stands, watch out!

  3. 50 for Buttler

A reverse sweep for four is then followed by two mighty sixes from Jos Buttler, straight down the ground and into the pavilion off Critchley that send the fans scattering!

  4. Originals 93-1

Spirit get a single when Nathan Ellis fumbles the ball in the deep, the outfield may still be a bit damp.

Max Holden then tries a reverse slap of some sort, misses it completely and watches as Adam Rossington makes a spectacular tumble to stop it going for four.

    Phoebe Graham

Manchester Originals bowler on BBC Radio

Very full, in his slot and Buttler just swiped through the line of that. Thompson needs to think about his length here.

    Henry Moeran

    BBC Test Match Special commentator

Goodness me, don't bowl there to Buttler whatever you do.

  7. Originals 90-1

It's full from Jordan Thompson, Jos Buttler hardly moves and he smacks it high over midwicket into the top deck of the stand next to the media centre!

And next ball he drills it low past the umpire and between the stumps and Holden for four more!

Love that shot from Holden, he's backed away, created space and then a real tennis slap over mid-off. It's where there is space and no fielders. He's made great contact to find the boundary rope.

  9. Originals 80-1

Holden is dealing mostly in boundaries, he backs away again and powers Ellis over the offside for another four.

It's been an excellent restart from the Originals, and we are at the halfway point.

Manchester Originals bowler on BBC Radio

Both fine leg and third man were up in the ring so that was a safe option for Holden to play.

  11. Originals 71-1

Nathan Ellis is back on, and he's greeted by a cheeky scoop from Max Holden, the ball being lifted over the keeper for a four - it just plugged short of the boundary.

Next ball is a bit more orthodox - he steps away to leg and slaps the ball over cover for four.

  12. Post update

    Phoebe Graham

Manchester Originals bowler on BBC Radio

The rain works in Spirit's advantage here because Jos Buttler looked like he could clear the ropes with every ball but now he has to get back into the game again.

  13. Originals 63-1

Buttler slaps the ball down to Zak Crawley on the long on boundary, then there's a decent piece of work from Adam Rossington as the Spirit keeper whips off the bails when Max Holden tries to creep down the pitch. Holden kept his foot behind the line though.

  14. Post update

    Henry Moeran

    BBC Test Match Special commentator

Jos Buttler looks like he's in the mood today it's fair to say.

  15. Originals 59-1

Right, we're all set - the players and umpires are back out at last.

Liam Dawson will resume to Jos Buttler, and don't forget we are down to 90 balls a side now.

  16. Birmingham Phoenix v Trent Rockets - latest

The rain appears to be easing at Edgbaston, and the groundstaff are starting the clear-up in hope that some play can start in the women's game.

But pictures show lots of puddles on the outfield so it is going to take a fair amount of time.

A reminder that the latest possible start-time for a 25-ball match is 16:42 BST.

  17. Play to resume at 15:45 - match reduced to 90 balls a side

    Originals 59-1

The hovercover is floating away to the boundary, and they are doing that 'dragging the rope around the outfield' thing, so it's looking hopeful.

There has been a reduction in the match's duration - it will be 90 balls a side now.

  18. Post update

We saw David Willey fall twice just because of that slippy outfield. Sometimes it's quite fun when you're fielding and you have that extra element of slipping and sliding but if the bowlers run up is wet then that's the bigger issue.

  19. Play to resume at 15:45

    Originals 59-1

The covers are coming off, the supersoppers are rumbling around the outfield and we are due to get back under way at 15:45 BST.

No word yet on whether we have lost anything in terms of deliveries.

It does look a tad brighter, I'm trying to be optimistic, folks!

  20. Rain stops play

    Originals 59-1

They've pulled the covers over the square adjacent to the hovercover, and there's no sign of the rain relenting.

I brought the factor 50 with me to the Friday of the Test match two weeks ago....
