Maia Bouchier hit a fine half-century to steer Brave to a five-wicket victory and lift them to the top of the table.

    Brave (11-1)

It's incredibly dark out there, and there's now a little drizzle coming down.

That's enough for the umpires, who confer and then summon the covers on.

  12. Brave 10-1published at 10 balls

Captain James Vince comes to the wicket and takes a single immediately into mid-wicket.

    Conway c & b Worrall (Brave 7-1)

    And a wicket for Worrall!

For the third time today, a bowler takes successive sets at the start of the match and with good reason here - Worrall is bowling superbly and the out of form Conway can only punch the seventh ball straight back to the Australian.

The New Zealand opener departs for a duck.

  14. Brave 7-0published at 5 balls

Aside from the six, that was a great opening set from Dan Worrall, finding swing and beating the bat three times.

Allen does attempt a scoop, and can only drop the ball safe for one.

  15. 6 runs

    Brave 6-0published at 2 balls

Short from Worrall and Allen clubs him baseball-style down the ground for a maximum!

The teams are out in the middle - it really is rather dark out there but the radars suggest we won't have any more rain.

Dan Worrall is opening the bowling for Spirit, while New Zealanders Finn Allen and Devon Conway are in the middle for Brave.

It hasn't been the greatest start for either of these two sides with Brave sitting two places above bottom-placed Spirit in sixth place.

Spirit have seen one of their games abandoned, losing the other to Oval Invincibles. Brave haven't been hit by the rain, but have won just one of their three fixtures.

Southern Brave captain James Vince: "We would have probably bowled too because there's potentially weather around. If it was a good day we would have looked to bat. It is what it is. Hopefully we can get some runs on the board and defend them later on.

"We don't have too much time to reflect on our performances. We took a good pasting the other day against the Superchargers but luckily we have an opportunity today to bounce back.

"The group table is congested so a couple of wins will get us where we want to be. So it's an important game tonight."

  19. Postpublished at 18:39 British Summer Time 8 August 2023

London Spirit captain Dan Lawrence: "There's a little bit of weather about and the game might get shorter later on so I thought we would have a bat second innings.

"The first game the bowlers did really well here but were a bit short with the bat. The second game it was a miserable day up in Manchester and was tricky for everyone. So we are excited to hopefully get a full game in and get a win.

"I'm really enjoying it. It is great playing with some world-class players and people I've never played with before. It's really exciting to lead the team and hopefully we can get on the board tonight."
