When Tom Banton was going well, it looked like Northern Superchargers might be able to chase down that imposing Invincibles total.

The opener was in destructive form, scoring 81 from 43 balls, to give the England selectors a reminder of what he's capable of...

  4. 'What a place to play cricket'published at 21:24 British Summer Time 11 August 2023

Oval Invincibles all-rounder Sam Curran on BBC Two: "Very nice to win, what a place to play cricket. The boys took a bit of confidence from the last game.

"These are the games that the guys want to play in and the games The Hundred needs.

"We felt like we needed runs on the board but with the bowling we’ve got, if we get the runs then we back ourselves to defend it.

"On small grounds like this you’ve got to be brave. You have to accept that you might go for six. I’ve almost got to try and bluff guys then not bluff them. It’s a bit of fun.

"We have so much technology and all the games on are TV so everyone knows your tricks."

Gus Atkinson makes the Invincibles sweat a little longer with a no-ball for height but finishes it off with a shoert, sharp delivery that Callum Parkinson gets nowhere near.

The Invincibles were pushed all the way but they win the battle of the top two.

    Rashid c Whiteley b Atkinson 0 (Superchargers 174-8)

Good contact from Adil Rashid but he picks out Ross Whiteley on the cover boundary.

That does it for the Invincibles, surely.

Whiteley holds his arms out to the crowd and then shows them his stomach. He's clearly had a bit of stick and is giving his response.

    Need 12 more

Wide! Superchargers can still get a tie!

    Carse c Cox b Atkinson 12 (Superchargers 173-7)

Good bouncer from Gus Atkinson and Brydon Carse is caught in the deep.

Carse went for the pull shot, the ball went a long way up but Jordan Cox took it safely at deep mid-wicket.

A doff of the cap to the crowd from Cox, too. Invincibles are almost there.

  10. Superchargers 173-6published at 3 balls left

    Need 13 more

Thumped over mid-off for four by Brydon Carse!

The Superchargers are still in with a chance, albeit a slim one.

  11. Superchargers 167-6published at 5 balls left

    Need 19 more

Slower ball bouncer from Sam Curran, expertly bowled and it's just a single.

There are a few words between Curran and Wayne Parnell at the end of the over.

Superchargers need 19 from the last five balls. Gus Atkinson will bowl them.

  12. Superchargers 166-6published at 6 balls left

    Need 20 more

Big call from the umpires as Wayne Parnell ducks a bouncer from Sam Curran, expecting the wide.

It's not given. Precious dot ball.

  13. Superchargers 166-6published at 7 balls left

    Need 20 more

Off line from Sam Curran but Brydon Carse can't beat the short fine leg fielder.

A couple of yards either side and that was four.

    Need 21 more

Drilled through the covers for four by Brydon Carse.

  16. Superchargers 159-6published at 10 balls left

    Need 27 more

Sunil Narine and Sam Curran (and Ross Whiteley) have turned this game back in the Invincibles' favour.

How? You take an absolute worldie a few balls before and you are taking those 99 times out of 100.

    Wiese c Whiteley b Narine 9 (Superchargers 158-6)

Another catch for Ross Whiteley, a simpler one - but only after he dropped a sitter the ball before!

David Wiese tries to heave Sunil Narine over the leg side two balls in a row, doesn't middle either but after getting away with the first of them, Whiteley makes no mistake with the second.
