  1. India clinch series victorypublished at 18:52 British Summer Time 20 August 2023

India beat Ireland by 33 runs

So India are the series winners, then, after what in the end was a fairly comfortable Twenty20 victory over Ireland in Malahide.

Niall O'Brien called it right in saying that Ireland had their moments - most notably when Andrew Balbirnie was finding the boundary - but it rarely felt like they would cause the upset they were striving for.

The two sides will be back at the same venue on Wednesday for the third and final match of the series.

  2. 'I feel we can beat India'published at 18:47 British Summer Time 20 August 2023

India beat Ireland by 33 runs

Ireland's Andrew Balbirnie on TNT Sports:

India have a highly-skilled bowling attack. I'm disappointed in the end. India got away from us at the back end of the first innings. We lost wickets early and that made it so hard for us. We look forward to the game on Wednesday and I feel we can beat India. We ran them close last year and that shows us how close we can get to them. We look forward to the final game on Wednesday.

  3. Singh 'happy with contribution'published at 18:43 British Summer Time 20 August 2023

India beat Ireland by 33 runs

Rinku Singh, India international on TNT Sports:

I am very happy with my contribution today. I've been playing IPL cricket but performing for the national side is special. We were happy to bat first and we are very happy with the win. I look forward to Wednesday's game.

  4. 'Ireland had their moments but India's class showed'published at 18:30 British Summer Time 20 August 2023

    India win by 33 runs

Niall O'Brien, former Ireland international, on TNT Sports:

India were superb in closing out the game. It was a clinical performance by the men in blue. All in all, it's been an excellent performance by India. Ireland have been struggling up front in the powerplay and today was another example of that. Ireland had their moments but the class of India showed. The positives for Ireland include the Andrew Balbirnie masterclass with the bat.

India beat Ireland by 33 runs

It was always going to be a tough ask for Ireland after India set them a total of 185-5 thanks to a strong finish to their innings.

Andrew Balbirnie carried the fight for the hosts but when he was out for 72, the Ireland challenge faded.

India win the series, then, but there is still that final game for the supporters to look forward to.

  7. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:22 British Summer Time 20 August 2023

    Adair c Varma b Bumrah (Ireland 148-8)

Just as we were singing Mark Adair's praises he is sent packing.

Still, a very impressive bit of work from him.

  8. Ireland 148-7 after 19 overspublished at 18:19 British Summer Time 20 August 2023

    Total 186

Mark Adair has done his best to pick up the baton since Andrew Balbirnie's departure - and my goodness has he picked it up.

He hit back-to-back sixes and his tally going into the final over is an impressive 23 runs from 11 balls.

Going to be too little, too late though.

  9. Ireland 135-7 after 18 overspublished at 18:15 British Summer Time 20 August 2023

Ireland look like their fight may have been fought as any hopes they had of levelling the series are fading fast.

    Two overs remaining.

  10. Ireland 128-7 after 17 overspublished at 18:10 British Summer Time 20 August 2023

Just four runs and a wicket conceded as well for Ireland in that 17th over.

Barry McCarthy can't reproduce his impressive innings from Friday as he goes for just two runs.

  12. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:04 British Summer Time 20 August 2023

    Balbirnie 72 c Samson b Arshdeep Singh (Ireland 125-6)

Ireland's best performer on the day has gone as Andrew Balbirnie is caught by wicket-keeper Samson from Singh's delivery.

You have to wonder how the hosts will recover from that blow.

  13. Postpublished at 18:01 British Summer Time 20 August 2023

    Ireland 115-5

Isobel Joyce, former Ireland international, on TNT Sports:

Ireland need to keep hitting! Andrew Balbirnie has showed real innovation in his shot making. Balbirnie has grown into his innings and he's worked incredibly hard to secure his 50. Ireland need twos, fours and sixes at this stage. It's time for boundaries now as much as possible! George Dockrell being run out is a bitter blow.

  14. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:00 British Summer Time 20 August 2023

Dockrell 13 run out (Ireland 115-5)

Ireland lose their fifth wicket as George Dockrell is run out after some poor communication from Andrew Balbirnie.

It went to an umpire review but it looked pretty clear.

Bad loss for Ireland as the pair were putting on a decent partnership.

  15. Ireland 102-4 after 14 overspublished at 17:52 British Summer Time 20 August 2023

Andrew Balbirnie is lucky to survive as India vice-captain Ruturaj Gaikwad drops what probably should have been a routine catch close to the boundary.

Prasidh Krishna returns to bowling duties for India.

  16. Ireland 94-4 after 13 overspublished at 17:48 British Summer Time 20 August 2023

    Target 186

Ireland's George Dockrell comes to the party as he steps forward and hits Ravi Bishnoi for six.

The Malahide crowd continue to keep the party atmosphere going.

  17. Half century for Balbirniepublished at 17:46 British Summer Time 20 August 2023

    Ireland 86-4

Andrew Balbirnie's fine performance continue as he brings his score up to 50 from 39 balls.

  18. Ireland 81-4 after 12 overspublished at 17:44 British Summer Time 20 August 2023

    Target 186

Not an over to remember for Ireland as they register just four runs.

They really are running out of time to record the runs they will need if they are to pull off a shock by reaching their target of 186.

  19. Ireland 77-4 after 11 wicketspublished at 17:40 British Summer Time 20 August 2023

Andrew Balbirnie really is carrying the fight to India here as he catches one on the sweet spot to send it for another six.

And swiftly follows it up with another - and a crowd catch as a bonus - to give Ireland 14 runs from the over.

That's 43 so far for the former Irish captain.

  20. 'A tall ask for Ireland'published at 17:37 British Summer Time 20 August 2023

    Ireland 63-4

Niall O'Brien, former Ireland international, on TNT Sports:

That last wicket is a bitter blow for Ireland. Curtis Campher and Andrew Balbirnie were forming a decent partnership. It takes bravery for Ireland from this point in. India have fielded well and this is a tall ask for Ireland.
