Jason Roy will be gutted not to play, he will have wanted to score some runs, especially on his home ground before the World Cup.

He keeps getting these back spasms and it may be a case of resting him at Lord's but getting him to play in the first couple of games in the Ireland squad.

Two changes for England then as Dawid Malan returns after the birth of his first child in place of Harry Brook.

Chris Woakes also comes in for David Willey.

Still no place for Jason Roy at the top of the order, who must still be struggling with the back spasm that ruled him out of the first two matches.

Four changes for New Zealand, including three players in Henry Nicholls, Kyle Jamieson and Ben Lister that were left out of their 15-man World Cup squad on Monday.

New Zealand: Will Young, Devon Conway, Henry Nicholls, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Latham (capt & wk), Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Kyle Jamieson, Lockie Ferguson, Trent Boult, Ben Lister.

New Zealand captain Tom Latham: "We're going to have a bowl. It's usually a great surface here. Chasing seems to be the right option, and we can't see conditions changing much.

"Henry Nicholls, Lockie Ferguson and Kyle Jamieson come back in and Ben Lister comes in too.

"We have a ouple of niggles here and there, so we just want to manage that and want to give everyone an opportunity. Ben is a left armer who brings something different and it's an exciting day for him."

England captain Jos Buttler: "We would have looked to bowl first too but we expect it to be a good pitch.

"I'm more focusing on the team and the style of play that we want at the moment. We spoke after the last game about being freer and more being aggressive if anything. That is what I want to see from the team today."

The toss happened around 15 minutes ago, with Tom Latham calling correctly for the third time in the series.

The Kiwi captain fancies a chase again, pointing to the numbers at The Oval suggesting that is the right thing to do.

It's worked once, and failed once, for them so far in the series so why not?

The first two ODIs have seen people consolidate their place on the plane for the World Cup in India...

... but others have, so far, failed to grasp their opportunity...
