Is this partnership setting Pakistan up for an historic win?

Remember a chase of 345 would be a World Cup record.

Abdullah Shafique and Muhammad Rizwan have now put on an unbroken 101 for the third wicket.

Shafique is 68 not out, and Rizwan 39.

Pakistan need 207 from 25 overs.

Abdullah Shafique and Muhammad Rizwan are continuing to rebuild with them taking 39 runs from the past five overs.

Shafique, who has come back into the side today, has brought up his half-century off 58 balls.

Rizwan is 28 not out at the other end.

Pakistan need 235 from 30 overs.

  3. Pakistan rebuild slowlypublished at 15 overs

    Pak 71-2; Target 345

A patient spell of five overs for Pakistan.

They are wary of taking too many risks after those two early wickets but the run-rate is consistently creeping up as a result.

    It currently stands at 7.82.

Abdullah Shafique is 37 not out, with Muhammad Rizwan unbeaten on 10.

Pakistan need another 274 from 35 overs.

  4. Sri Lanka get Babar to take controlpublished at 10 overs

Sri Lanka have got the big wicket of Babar Azam!

They are a tad fortune as Dilshan Madushanka strays down the leg but Babar follows it and gets a fine tickle behind.

Abdullah Shafique (22*) and Muhammad Rizwan (3*) are now having to be patient as they look to rebuild for Pakistan.

Rizwan has just had a slice of fortune with a thick leading edge flying over the cover fielder. He's going to be key for Pakistan as they attempt a World Cup record chase.

Sri Lanka then burn a review as they think Shafique has cue-ended into the covers, but it came straight off his helmet.

They need another 297 from 40 overs.

  5. Sri Lanka find breakthrough to bring Babar to creasepublished at 5 overs

Sri Lanka have got that crucial early breakthrough.

It's opener Imam-ul-Haq who is back in the changing room after top-edging a pull down to fine leg.

It was a tricky catch for Kusal Perera but he settles under it and grabs hold of it in front of him.

That means Pakistan captain Babar Azam is in the middle and he got off the mark with a glorious on-drive for four.

Pakistan need another 323 from 45 overs.

    Time for the chase.

Imam-ul-Haq and Abdullah Shafique are the openers, while Sri Lanka will start with the spin of Maheesh Theekshana.

If Pakistan are to win it would be a record World Cup chase.

Pakistan's chase of 345 will start in just under half an hour.

You can enjoy Kusal Mendis' best shots while you wait for the resumption.

There was some superb hitting, including an almighty six to bring up his century.

Sri Lanka's Sadeera Samarawickrama: "I am really happy with the performance that I did. I've never got a hundred before in ODIs so I really wanted to do that and I'm glad that I could.

"Kusal [Mendis] batted really well and it was a great partnership.

"The wicket was really good at the start but in the last 15 overs it was getting better for the fast bowlers. It was not easy to bat on in the last few overs.

"Pace off is definitely an option after the new ball and that will help the fast bowlers."

  9. Sri Lanka set Pakistan 345 to winpublished at 50 overs

Sri Lanka end up posting 344-9 from their 50 overs.

Kusal Mendis top-scored with 122, while Sadeera Samarawickrama made his maiden ODI century in adding 108.

They might be slightly disappointed with their total considering they were 229-3 after 30 overs. That means they have only added 115 in the final 20 overs of the innings.

Hassan Ali was the pick of the Pakistan bowlers, taking 4-71. Haris Rauf bowled a brilliant final over, taking two wickets and conceding just one run.

  10. Samarawickrama nears centurypublished at 45 overs

    SL 315-5

Pakistan will be happy with that last five overs. Just 32 runs conceded at this stage of the innings is a good return.

Dhananjaya de Silva holed out off Mohammad Nawaz, bringing captain Dasun Shaneka to the crease.

He is seven off 12 balls, while Sadeera Samarawickrama is unbeaten on 98 at the other end.

Into the final five overs we go. 350 the minimum, surely?

  11. Sri Lanka rebuild ready for last 10 overspublished at 40 overs

    SL 283-4

Sadeera Samarawickrama and Dhananjaya de Silva have patiently built a new partnership for Sri Lanka after the loss of two quick wickets.

There are signs that are starting to up the ante though.

Samarawickrama is up to 76 off 65 balls, while De Silva has 23 off 31.

Sri Lanka have added 36 off the last five overs so they have gone along a steady rate, but with 10 oves to go we might see them accelerate from here with a decent amount of wickets in hand.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam has plenty of options with all three of his seamers: Shaheen Afridi, Hassan Ali and Haris Rauf having three overs left apiece.

  12. Pakistan fighting back against Sri Lankapublished at 35 overs

    SL 247-4

Pakistan are doing a good job of fighting back and restricting Sri Lanka.

The run-rate is still more than seven an over, but the last five overs have only seen 18 runs added for one wicket.

That was Charith Asalanka who edged Hassan Ali behind from the first ball of the 31st over.

Haris Rauf is recovering his figures too. His last two overs have gone for 10, meaning he has 0-55 from seven overs.

Sadeera Samarawickrama has reached his half-century, and is 54 not out, and he's joined by Dhananjaya de Silva, who is nine not out.

Sri Lanka would get up to 356 if they continued at the same rate.

    Listen to that match here.

  14. Mendis makes century but falls as Pakistan seek wicketspublished at 30 overs

    SL 229-3

What an innings from Kusal Mendis.

The Sri Lanka number three reached his century with a huge six over mid-wicket. It came off just 65 balls, making it the fastest by a Sri Lanka batter in World Cups and the sixth fastest in the global tournament.

He kept on going, including back-to-back sixes off Hassan Ali.

He tried to go again and make it three in a row but was caught by Imam-ul-Haq on the mid-wicket fence. It's a good catch, with him having to settle himself under it, just in front of the sponges.

Mendis falls for 122 off 77 balls, after making 76 off 42 balls in Sri Lanka's first game. A good start to the tournament.

Can Pakistan use that wicket to restrict Sri Lanka a little bit? Charith Asalanka is the new batter and he likes to go hard so expect Sri Lanka to keep coming.

  15. Pakistan struggle to contain Sri Lankapublished at 25 overs

    SL 181-2

Pakistan are struggling to contain Sri Lanka at the moment, both with pace and spin.

Haris Rauf is really struggling, conceding 20 off his fifth over. He's gone for 45 already.

Mohammad Nawaz has since conceded two fours in the same over too.

Sri Lanka have hit 23 fours and five sixes in the first half of the innings.

It means Babar Azam has had to return to left-arm seamer Shaheen Afridi already. Pakistan need a breakthrough.

Kusal Mendis is on 92 and Sadeera Samarawickrama 30.

  16. Shadab finds breakthrough but SL lay platformpublished at 20 overs

    SL 127-2

    Another busy five overs.

Patham Nissanka reached his half-century off 58 balls, before Kusal Mendis brought his up with a glorious flick into the mid-wicket boundary. It comes up off 40 balls.

Nissanka falls in the next over though as he cuts Shadab Khan to point. Did that bounce a little bit more than the opener expected? Possibly.

That has allowed Babar Azam to return to Haris Rauf, who concedes just three, but Shadab is taken for two fours off the next over.

Sri Lanka will be looking for more than 300 at this early stage.

  17. Sri Lanka going well as Nissanka nears half-centurypublished at 15 overs

    SL 90-1

This is turning into a really good start and platform for Sri Lanka.

Pathum Nissanka is on 47 and Kusal Mendis 37, with the pair now sharing an unbroken 85 for the second wicket.

Sri Lanka have scored at exactly a run a ball in the first 15 overs.

Haris Rauf has gone for 22 off his first three overs, but spinner Mohammad Nawaz has been tidy. There isn't much spin on offer though.

  18. Imam drops Mendis as Sri Lanka start wellpublished at 10 overs

It has been a busy five overs to end the powerplay.

Kusal Mendis should be back in the changing room but Imam-ul-Haq dropped him at point off Shaheen Afridi.

It went quickly at Mendis but Imam got his hands in the wrong position and it spilled out.

Shaheen wasn't too impressed, spreading both of his arms out in frustration.

Sri Lanka are scoring quite quickly, with boundaries coming at ease. Pathum Nissanka played a gorgeous straight drive off Hassan Ali for six.

Pakistan have been a bit wayward so far, bowling five wides.

  19. Hassan strikes early in Hyderabadpublished at 5 overs

    SL 29-1

It has been a pretty sedate start in Hyderabad, but partly down to the fact that Hassan Ali removed Kusal Perera with his fourth ball.

Bowling across the left-hander there was a little bit of extra bounce from Hassan and it caught the edge as Perera looked to drive away.

Pathum Nissanka has hit a couple of boundaries, as has Kusal Mendis. The latter has also just hit a six too.

We're already seeing Shaheen Afridi go over the wicket, looking to cramp the right-handers for room. The left-arm quick has just been hit on the knee, as Mendis drives back down the ground. It was a catching opportunity for Shaheen, but a tough one.
