All times stated are UK

  1. 'Ollie Robinson looked in good rhythm'

    Sussex v Northants 58-1

    Adrian Harms

    BBC Sussex

A good session for the visitors after losing Emilio Gay to Jayden Seales seventh ball for Sussex, smartly caught done the legside by new skipper John Simpson

Justin Broad and Luke Procter have played sensibly and largely untroubled, with Sussex guilty of not making the batters play enough deliveries.

Ollie Robinson looked in good rhythm and bowled with decent pace in his four-over spell, and Sussex will be hoping he can add to his 396 first-class wickets after the interval.

  2. for Dane Paterson

    Notts v Essex 194-6

    Dane Paterson (Nottinghamshire)

This is magnificent bowling by Dane Paterson!

The Notts seamer cleans up Adam Rossington to complete a five-for - the 22nd time he's achieved that feat in first-class cricket - and Essex, who were 170-2, are now in some difficulties at 194-6.

Simon Harmer so often comes to their rescue with the ball, now Essex need him to perform with the bat as he comes to the middle to join Jordan Cox.

That's also a second bonus point for Notts.

  3. Post update

    Warwks v Worcs 235-2

Ed Barnard was going to bowl, but in view of the darkening skies, Captain Davies has brought off spinner Robert Yates on instead.

One slip comes in for Rob Jones.

Slow turn for Yates as Jones gets a single through the off side.

The third ball is floated outside off stump and smashes through cover by Ali for four! He's on 95.

Square leg drops back to the boundary.

Yates bowls very full and Ali can't quite clear mid wicket for the single.

  4. up for Glamorgan

    Middlesex v Glamorgan 305-2

That's a gift for any batter worth their salt - angled down leg and with a short boundary.

Sam Northeast already has 155 to his name and he can add four more to his score.

Tom Helm is then a touch too straight and Northeast whips it through the onside for another boundary.

Helm is leaking like a dodgy engine!

  5. Post update

    Notts v Essex 186-5

Nothing like a flurry of wickets at the other end to force a player into his shell - and Jordan Cox has looked positively subdued since the tea interval.

Cox had only added a single until this over from Brett Hutton, when he tickled one around the corner for a boundary to move up to 62.

Fellow wicketkeeper/batter Adam Rossington (who is taking the gloves in this game) is out there alongside Cox as Essex look to rebuild.

  6. Post update

    Warwks v Worcs 230-2

Barnard bowls a very floaty slower ball and Ali drives for no run.

He gets a single to backward square off the last ball to reach 87.

Sadly, the ground staff are hovering on the boundary, but we're going to play on for now.

Kashif Ali is back and across to a wide ball from Briggs, slapping it through cover for four.

That takes the 3rd wicket partnership to 50 off 98 balls.

It's getting rather dark here. Rain may be coming soon too.

  7. 'Spectacular to see stumps cartwheeling'

    Yorks v Leics 51-1

    Jonathan Doidge

    BBC Radio Leeds cricket commentator

A great moment for Yorkshire to take their first wicket of the season.

Matt Milnes removing one of Rishi Patel's stumps.

Patel who got a century, his maiden first class century in this fixture on this ground with Leicestershire, was bowled for 19.

It's always spectacular when you see the stumps cartwheeling.

  8. Post update

    Middlesex v Glamorgan 294-2

A leg-stump half-volley from Tom Helm and it's given the treatment by Kiran Carlson.

It's on the short side boundary side at Lord's and Carlson's wristy flick flies over deep midwicket's head for the first maximum of the day.

  9. up for Leicestershire

    Yorks v Leics 51-1

Lovely straight drive by Louis Kimber for four off Matt Milnes brings up 50 for Leicestershire, who were put in by Shan Masood at Headingley.

Milnes took the only wicket so far in this truncated first day, ripping out the off stump of Rishi Patel.

  10. Post update

    Warwks v Worcs 223-2

Jones picks up four more with a superb late cut off the bowling of Ed Barnard to move to 20.

Three more singles off the Briggs over at the other end and the sun is shining. Something of a rarity in England today.

  11. 'One of best shots today'

    Middlesex v Glamorgan 282-2

    Roland Butcher

Former Middlesex and England batter on BBC Radio London

A lovely shot for Sam Northeast to bring up his 150 - one of the better shots he's played today.

  12. Tea at Hove

    Sussex v Northants 58-1

There's turn for Jack Carson here, as the off spinner beats the outside edge of Procter's bat.

Tom Haines is going to have a bowl before the break and Justin Broad is denied a single by a superb stop at extra cover.

That's tea. A good session of play for Northants, who recovered well after a stunning catch from John Simpson off Jayden Seales to remove Emilio Gay.

53 runs added by Broad and Procter since then.

  13. Post update

    Warwcks v Worcs 216-2

Full toss from Briggs and Kashif Ali charges down and doesn't time his shot, clothing the ball away for a single.

Three more singles come in the over.

A quiet session of play with occasional threat, notably from Rhodes - but it has very much been Worcestershire's day so far.

  14. WICKET: Walter c Clarke b Paterson 0

    Notts v Essex 176-5

Well, this is quite a fightback by Nottinghamshire and Dane Paterson.

Four wickets now for the Notts seamer and Essex have lost three for just six runs either side of the tea interval.

Paul Walter is gone for a duck, edging behind for Joe Clarke to take his second catch of the day.

  15. WICKET: Patel b Milnes 19

    Yorks v Leics 43-1

Emphatic! That's a great way to take your team's first wicket of the season.

Matt Milnes brings one back to send Rishi Patel's off-stump flying and this opening stand of 43 is broken.

Louis Kimber is out there now to join Marcus Harris for Leicestershire.

  16. for Sam Northeast

    Middlesex v Glamorgan 279-2

This is Sam Northeast's day all right!

Tom Helm is slightly too full and Northeast on-drives it straight back to the Lord's Pavilion to make it to 150.

He has batted for 195 balls and hit 23 fours and he is in no mood to stop.

  17. for Kiran Carlson

    Middlesex v Glamorgan 275-2

    Kiran Carlson reaches his 50

Tom Helm is short and wide and Kiran Carlson cuts it square for three to bring up his half century.

He's the third player in this innings to get to that landmark.

Carlson is playing an excellent support role to Sam Northeast and this stand is up to 130.

  18. Post update

    Sussex v Northants 56-1

Three singles off Carson's first over.

Danny Lamb will continue at the other end.

He strikes Justin Broad on the pad but the LBW shout is turned down.

Just outside the line? Certainly played all around it.

Broad blocks out the rest of the over.

  19. Post update

    Warwks v Worcs 212-2

A nervous moment for Rob Jones, who gets a brute of a ball from Will Rhodes that flies just past the shoulder of the bat.

Briggs continues from the Pavilion End.

Kashif Ali tries to cut and the ball passes the bottom edge of the bat.

He connects with a shorter fifth ball though, and cuts it away for four.

  20. 'Northants are controlling the game'

    Sussex v Northants 55-1

    Matt Green

    on BBC Radio Sussex

Northants are really controlling this game.

It's really important that in these little 1% moments in the game for either side to put themselves in a good position, they need to keep the focus and do the basics to the highest of their potential.
