  1. Post update

    Middlesex v Glamorgan 263-2

    Sam Northeast, that is beautiful!

The Glammy skipper has played some glorious shots, but I'm not sure if there are too many better than that.

With a bit of footwork and a slightly open face, he sends another Leus du Plooy ball through the offside for four.

He is now eight short of 150.

  2. First batting point for Glamorgan

    Middlesex v Glamorgan 253-2

Probably appropriate that it's a Sam Northeast boundary which takes Glamorgan to their first batting point of the season.

He frees his arm and drills a Josh de Caires delivery down to the short cover boundary.

Glamorgan could really put their foot on the accelerator in this session.

  3. Post update

    Sussex v Northants 52-1

Broad moves to 22 with a single off Lamb, driven through cover.

One more for Procter, tapped away to deep square leg.

John Simpson is chatting to Ollie Robinson.

Is he going to bowl before tea?

Not yet. Jack Carson is coming on to bowl some off spin.

  4. Play resumes at Lord's

    Middlesex v Glamorgan 245-2

A couple of singles from Josh de Caires' first over after the interval.

Leus du Plooy opens from the other end and spoils a decent over with a filthy long hop off the last ball that Sam Northeast hammers away to the fence.

    Thanks very much!

  5. Play resumes at Trent Bridge

    Notts v Essex 174-4

    Dane Paterson (Notts)

May be worth pointing out, as the players return for the evening session, that Nottinghamshire are the only team to have claimed a bonus point so far.

Technically, does that make them the early front-runners in the County Championship??

Anyway, in theory Notts have another 39 overs to try and capture further bonus points this evening. Paul Walter has come out to join Jordan Cox at the crease after that wicket just prior to tea.

  6. Post update

    Warwks v Worcs 206-2

Danny Briggs has been causing a few problems for Kashif Ali, who was briefly out of his ground as one ball was rolling back into the stumps.

    He survives.

Jones is driving Rhodes outside off but without piercing the off side field.

He's probably been the pick of the Warwickshire bowlers - and he has Jones beaten outside off stump with his fifth ball.

    Maiden over.

  7. Post update

    Sussex v Northants 50-1

Northants have recovered well after the early loss of Emilio Gay, with just five runs scored at that point.

Procter plays and misses Lamb outside off stump.

    Beaten again outside off.

The fourth ball is shorter and leg side, allowing room for Procter to scoop behind square for a single to take Northants to 50 runs in the 18th over.

Broad is beaten outside off but survives the over.

  8. 'Northeast century has put Glamorgan in the driving seat'

    Middlesex v Glamorgan 234-2

    Nick Webb

    BBC Radio Wales

A chanceless Sam Northeast century has put Glamorgan in the driving seat at a blustery Lord’s as Middlesex’s decision to bowl first appears to have back-fired.

The Kookaburra ball has done virtually nothing for Middlesex’s battery of seamers, despite two economical spells from Ryan Higgins.

Northeast put on 129 with Billy Root (67) before the makeshift opener got a fine ball from Henry Brookes, the home side’s only success of the afternoon.

Spinner Josh de Caires also had his moments as Kiran Carlson could not get going as quickly as usual, but if the Glamorgan batters can stay patient, they have a formidable platform to build on.

  9. 'Excellent delivery again by Paterson'

    Notts v Essex 174-4

    Grace Ballinger

The Blaze bowler on BBC Radio Nottingham

It's an excellent delivery again by Paterson, bowling that nagging line and length, again getting the reward for it.

Turned momentum on its head before tea.

  10. Pears pass 200 for two down at Edgbaston

    Warwks v Worcs 203-2

Lovely shot by Jones, who opens the face of the bat as late as possible to run a ball from Rushworth through third man for four runs.

The Worcester 200 comes in the 60th over.

The clouds have been swirling around the ground, but mercifully not for long enough thus far to threaten play.

  11. Post update

    Yorks v Leics 16-0

No obvious demons in this Headingley pitch so far as Leicestershire's openers reach 16 without loss from the first seven overs.

Rishi Patel, who's just got away with a risky shot against Ben Coad that flew to safety over midwicket, has 10 while Marcus Harris has just a single to his name from 19 deliveries.

  12. Post update

    Sussex v Northants 48-1

Justin Broad picks up four more with a delightful back foot punch through cover off the bowling of Lamb.

Ollie Robinson is doing some stretches in the field and may well bowl another spell before the tea break, which is scheduled for 4.35pm.

Single for Broad off Lamb in his next over.

Close for Procter, who is squared up by Lamb and edges the ball just short of third slip.

  13. Post update

    Warwks v Worcs 196-2

Rushworth is back in the attack for the hosts and Jones clips the ball square for his first four.

Four more to Jones, cut away through gully.

Jones will keep the strike with a single behind square.

    Ten off the over.

  14. WICKET: Critchley lbw b Paterson 1

    Notts v Essex 174-4

Dane Paterson again!Suddenly Nottinghamshire are going to tea on a high note as the veteran seamer picks up his second wicket in successive overs.

Paterson gets the lbw decision against Matt Critchley and Essex are four down, with Jordan Cox still there on 57.

That's the signal for the players to leave the field for tea.

  15. Latest scores

    #bbccricket

With rain causing havoc to the opening day and matches starting at different times, there is no definitive teatime scoreboard.

Instead, here is an update of scores as things stand at 16:00 BST.

    Division One:

Chester-le-Street: Durham v Hampshire - play abandoned for the day

Canterbury: Kent v Somerset - play abandoned for the day

Emirates Old Trafford: Lancashire v Surrey - play abandoned for the day

Trent Bridge: Nottinghamshire v Essex 174-3

    Edgbaston: Warwickshire v Worcestershire 187-2

    Division Two:

Derby: Derbyshire v Gloucestershire - play abandoned for the day

    Lord's: Middlesex v Glamorgan 234-2

    Hove: Sussex v Northamptonshire 40-1

    Headingley: Yorkshire v Leicestershire 12-0

  16. Post update

    Sussex v Northants 38-1

Danny Lamb joins the attack and starts with a maiden.

Hudson-Prentice continues from the Cromwell Road End and Justin Broad picks up a single to move to 14.

Earlier this afternoon, Ollie Robinson bowled with good accuracy in a four-over spell for nine runs.

  17. 'Elgar has made a magnificent contribution'

    Notts v Essex 170-3

    Dave Bracegirdle

    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

Dean Elgar is gone for 80, he won't make his 100 on his Essex debut, but he's made a magnificent contribution.

My, how Notts needed that, that was a fabulous partnership.

  18. Tea at Lord's

    Middlesex v Glamorgan 234-2

The final over of the session is bowled by Leus du Plooy and he almost comes up with the wicket that Middlesex really wanted.

Turn and bounce from the slow left-armer and it beats everything of Sam Northast's defences.

However, the Glamorgan captain goes to the break unbeaten on a superb 121.

He has a first-day century. Surely he couldn't reach 200 on day one, could he?

  19. Play resumes at Edgbaston

    Warwks v Worcs 183-2

Rhodes will complete the over. Five deliveries remaining and a theoretical 39 overs to come.

Kashif Ali will take strike on 71.

Rob Jones is yet to get off the mark after facing just one delivery before the break.

  20. Close!

    Middlesex v Glamorgan 224-2

Middlesex turn to the part-time bowling of Leus du Plooy, the seventh bowler used this innings.

And he almost strikes fourth ball. His ball is flighted, but wide of off-stump and Kiran Carlson eyes it up.

The batter misses it and the bails are removed by Jack Davies, but Carlson just about recovers his ground.
