I knew Lando Norris wasn't going to box, Red Bull are not that stupid. That was just trying to pull the wool over their eyes and make them box, but good effort.

The undercut being that if you pit first that allows you to put on the fresh tyre sooner than your competitor and maybe that disparity allows you to make up speed on the circuit.

  4. Postpublished at Lap 19/53

Shenanigans from McLaren as they tell Lando Norris to box, seemingly hoping to lure Red Bull into blinking first. The pit crew come out, but Norris stays out and Max Verstappen doesn't take the bait.

  5. Postpublished at Lap 18/53

I think we're going to have to be patient for a bit of action with everyone having pretty comfortable gaps from the drivers behind them.

Only Yuki Tsunoda is looking capable of an overtake any time soon as he continues to loom large on Pierre Gasly's mirrors.

Looking generally down the grid the majority of drivers are setting personal bests at the moment so they've been saving that tyre and managing it, the track will be improving as well.

  7. Postpublished at Lap 17/53

Jack Doohan gets 16 laps out of his softs but pits now for a set of hards. He is back out in 19th.

Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton's gamble to start on the hards continues to look good. He remains seventh, with those ahead of him going to see their tyres drop off sooner than him.

  8. Postpublished at Lap 16/53

Charles Leclerc has fended off the possible attack from George Russell for now as the Mercedes driver drops back a bit to manage his tyres. Leclerc's advantage is around 1.5s.

  12. Postpublished at Lap 13/53

Charles Leclerc has to keep an eye on George Russell in his mirrors with the Mercedes seven tenths of a second behind him in fifth. Russell hasn't quite been in the window yet for an attack down the main straight.

  13. Postpublished at Lap 12/53

The red flags in practice really limited the teams' opportunities to do long runs so they are heading into a bit of the unknown here.

Now Oscar Piastri finds a bit more pace as he does the fastest lap of the race. He's 1.5s behind Lando Norris, who remains second.

Alex Albon could mean that [the shifts] are not smooth on the upshift or he could be talking about the downshifts.

Sometimes in these F1 cars they are changing so late down into the corner that if it does snatch that will rotate the rear and not help you.

Albon: "These shifts are so bad. What have we done to them?"

  16. Postpublished at Lap 11/53

Alex Albon, currently ninth, is having gear shift issues like Max Verstappen and sounds very frustrated over the radio.

It looks like Lando Norris might be finding a bit more pace as he clocks the fastest lap so far.

George Russell is looking fairly strong tucked up behind Charles Leclerc.

Lando Norris has just set the fastest lap of the race but the gap has not really come down between him and Max Verstappen, it's still two seconds.

  18. Postpublished at Lap 10/53

That rain McLaren reported is only expected to be light and last for one lap.

Meanwhile, Lance Stroll's run on softs lasts for just 10 laps as he pits to swap for hards. He's back out in last place.

Max Verstappen knows how to win around this track, he's won the last three races, he will be feeling mighty confident that he has managed to keep that first place out there.

He will just hope that by the time they get to the pit-stops he's in a position where he can't be undercut or overcut.
