    A lovely tow from team-mate Hadjar lifts Yuki Tsunoda to seventh on the timesheets.

    The Mercedes of Kimi Antonelli is running in the top three, but that becomes top four as the McLaren of Oscar Piastri sticks in a 1:31.362 to go second behind McLaren team-mate Lando Norris.

    George Russell is on the radio to the Silver Arrows to say his medium tyres just aren't working.

    The McLaren is looking very fast this weekend in the hands of Lando Norris. The Briton beats Max Verstappen's quickest time of 1:31.521 by over three tenths to sit top with less than five minutes to go.

    An encouraging display by Lewis Hamilton to pop up late on and put his Ferrari on top of the pile in SQ1. The seven-time world champion holds just about every record in Shanghai, so if any driver can ace this track, it's him.

    George Russell and Kimi Antonelli have not ruffled any feathers at the top of the timesheets. The more experienced Russell is sixth and Italian teenager Antonelli is eighth.

    Meanwhile, Yuki Tsunoda flags to his Racing Bulls pit wall Russell got in his way around Turn 14. Race control of noted that spot of impeding.

    Liam Lawson goes sixth on the board - that will be a confident booster for the New Zealander.

    Oscar Piastri has thrown his hat in to the ring with a 1:31.723, ahead of the Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso. Lando Norris can only manage fifth place on his opening flyer.

    Lewis Hamilton puts his Ferrari a tenth above the Red Bull of Max Verstappen. Scuderia team-mate Charles Leclerc is next to cross the line and goes second, 0.010 seconds off the seven-time world champion.

    Max Verstappen is the first if the big names to go top of the timesheets with a 1:32.329. The Racing Bulls of Isack Hadjar, who didn't even make it past the formation lap in Melbourne, is second fastest.

The Mercedes of George Russell and Kimi Antonelli have come out together followed by the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto. Time is ticking away but getting temperature in those tyres is important, so no-one is lining up a lap just yet.
