McLaren's Oscar Piastri produced a breathtaking performance to set pole position for the sprint race at the Belgian Grand Prix.
The Australian, the world championship leader, was 0.477 seconds quicker than Red Bull's Max Verstappen and 0.618secs ahead of team-mate and title rival Lando Norris.
Ferrari's Charles Leclerc was fourth, but 0.768secs off the pace, while his team-mate Lewis Hamilton was knocked out in the first session and will start 18th after a mistake on his first lap and a spin at the final corner on his second.
Esteban Ocon's Haas took a surprise fifth place, split from his British team-mate Oliver Bearman by Williams' Carlos Sainz.
Alpine's Pierre Gasly, Racing Bulls' Isack Hadjar and Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto completed the top 10.
Piastri only just made it through to the final shoot-out for pole in 10th place after having his first lap in the second session ruled out for exceeding track limits at Raidillon.
But he had looked the quickest driver all day and he delivered on his potential with impressive effect.

McLaren's Lando Norris, who was third quickest: "Not quick enough, I guess. Wasn't the cleanest of laps but still quite a big gap to the top. Not too disappointed. Some things to work on.
"It is just Friday, I am not too fussed. Not the happiest of course. I'd like to be a bit quicker but I just have to do some more work tonight, that's all."
'We maximised it'published at 16:49 British Summer Time 25 July

Red Bull's Max Verstappen, who was second quickest: "Being P2 between the McLarens is a good result for us. We maximised it. I enjoyed it out there, the lap itself was fine. The gap is big but it has been bgi for everyone so not a surprise.
"We just have to focus on ourselves. When you are almost five tenths off going faster or slower on the straight won't make much difference."
'Almost perfect'published at 16:43 British Summer Time 25 July

McLaren team principal Andrea Stella, speaking to Sky Sports: "That was a pretty amazing lap by Oscar, he capitalised on everything available in the car.
"An almost perfect session from Oscar, except for the lap deletion in SQ2 which gave us a bit of a moment on the pit wall!"
'Nice to get a result today'published at 16:35 British Summer Time 25 July

Oscar Piastri, who secured his first Sprint pole position of the season: "It was a good lap. A little scare in SQ2 with the lap deletion. But thanks to the team, the car has been great and this is a track I love. Maybe that gave me a couple of extra tenths.
"The car has been in a good window since lap one and it is a track I always enjoy coming to.
"It is nice to get a result today.
"The Red Bulls were very quick in a straight line in practice. That makes life difficult in terms of it being the worst track to have pole position."

Oscar Piastri just squeezes through after being disrupted by his first time being deleted, but what a mixed top 10 that is. It makes for an interesting Sprint race tomorrow.
The start of the final part of qualifying has been delayed a few minutes as some of that gravel still on the track is cleared.
