The 167 checkout to win the second set, the deadly double eight for the fifth set and the 140 finish to seal the deal.

Taylor had his chances. He missed double 12 for a nine-dart leg and averaged over 102, but there was only one man in that final.

Cross takes it with a 107 three-dart average, 11 maximums and a 60% doubles average.

SENSATIONAL.

Rob Cross might have won the trophy, but this is still Phil Taylor's night.

He's on stage, singing his heart out to Coldplay's 'When I ruled the World'. Apparently this is what he's always wanted.

16 times the Power has been crowned the Champion of the World.

No tears from Phil, but everyone else has gone.

Phil Taylor is in a reflective mood on stage.

"I tried my best but he was like me 25 years ago, he was relentless and didn't stop putting me under pressure," he says.

"He's dedicated, he's listened, learned and the players next year have got a big problem.

"You've got someone who wants to win, I don't think the money with him is going to make a scrap of difference, you've got a little animal on your hands.

"It was like an old man against a young man, it was a mis-match. That's it for me because I haven't got the energy or interest to beat Michael van Gerwen or him."
