  2. Humphries hits bull for the setpublished at 22:21 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January

    Williams 0-3 Humphries

Williams comes so close to doing just that - but hits the 25 instead of bull.

Humphries leaves 50 too with one dart left in hand - and his aim is unerring.

Body-blow for Williams, that. Humphries halfway to a final with namesake Luke Littler.

A couple more holds of throw and we are into a deciding leg.

Scott Williams is getting in the groove now.

He tried a no-look 180 last leg and now holds the pose after hitting a maximum.

Big leg for him - he needs to break throw and get a set on the board.

Luke Out. Heard lots of people shout for him.

    Williams 0-2 Humphries (1-1)

Scott Williams has had little to cheer so far but he hits two double 19s to take out 76 and stop the rot.

And gives it the big un after. Nice darts to be fair but he's still in a hole at two sets down.

  6. 170 checkout for Humphriespublished at 22:14 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January

    Williams 0-2 Humphries (0-1)

    Luke Humphries is flying.

He hits the big one, a 170 finish with two treble 20s and a bull.

Then starts the next leg with a 180 to boot.

Surely, it's not just me - Scott Williams' outfit, grey shirt with yellow trim, reminds you of a worker at a certain fast-food chain, right?

This has been dad joke heaven for me while watching the tournament with the kids.

"He's made a hash brown of this leg".... "what a cracking McFlurry of trebles"..... you get the jist.

"DAAAAAAAADD! Will you stop!" comes the inevitable reply. But I reckon, despite the groans and eye-rolls, that really... they're Lovin' It.

How could you forget Luke Donald?

    Anon, via WhatsApp

With an all-Luke final in the offing, we asked for famous folk with that forename. We have Skywalker, Bros bloke Goss and, now, Ryder Cup hero Donald...

  9. Humphries takes second setpublished at 22:07 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January

    Williams 0-2 Humphries

Luke Humphries sweeps the set with a stunning 136 checkout.

Scott Williams isn't getting a sniff so far. He beat Michael van Gerwen last night, of course, so don't count him out - but it is looking ominous for the Lincolnshire lad.

    Williams 0-1 Humphries (0-2)

Luke Humphries has had some very close shaves in this tournament, winning two matches 4-3 from behind.

But he looks coolness personified so far. An early break in the second set for the third seed, who is massively outscoring Scott Williams.

Scott Williams is a multi-sport man.

He could be crowned world darts champion on Wednesday night - but he also plays in goal for a grassroots football team in his native Boston.

And if he does lift the Sid Waddell Trophy, he'd better cut the celebrations short.

Because his gaffer is still expecting him to turn out in a cup semi-final this weekend!

"He's meant to be playing on Saturday - our reserves have a cup semi and the goalkeeper fell off his motorbike so Scott's meant to be playing," Swineshead Institute FC boss Andy Stukins says.

  13. Humphries takes opening setpublished at 22:00 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January

    Williams 0-1 Humphries

A very comfortable deciding leg for Luke Humphries, who averaged almost 110 in the opening set.

A step closer to an all-Luke final.

What famous Lukes do we have? Skywalker obviously. Goss. Kinda struggling after that although I'll be missing some obvious ones I bet.

    Williams 0-0 Humphries (2-2)

Unseeded Scott Williams levels the set with double 15.

Imagine a Williams v Littler final - the odds you'd have got on that at the start of the tournament.

    Williams 0-0 Humphries (1-2)

Pretty unorthodox double 20, double 10 route to finish 60 from Luke Humphries.

The pre-tournament favourite edges ahead in set one.

Right then, time to focus on the second semi-final - even if it is hard to, after just witnessing a 16-year-old reach a World Championship final.

Scott Williams and third seed Luke Humphries have each broken the other's throw in the opening set.

Jason Lafferty: Luke Littler was incredible there. Got better with every set after early nerves. Rob Cross has put in a literally world class performance there, and been demolished. What in the world.

I've been following darts closely for all of my life and have never seen a talent like Luke the Nuke. Whether in the world youth darts championships or on this stage, his temperament is just sensational. Go on Luke!

  18. Humphries riding his luck?published at 21:49 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January

    Williams v Humphries

Third seed Luke Humphries, who won three major titles in 2023, is the highest-ranked player left in the competition.

His route to the semis has been far from serene, however.

He's twice been on the brink of the exit door, first against Germany's Ricardo Pietreczko, who Humphries trailed 3-1 in sets before triumphing 4-3.

And then, even more worryingly, against compatriot Joe Cullen who wasted match darts for a big last-16 shock. Is his name on the trophy?

    Williams v Humphries

In most other years, Scott Williams would be the story of the World Championships.

In just his second appearance at the tournament, the 33-year-old has not only reached the last four - he's knocked out four seeds along the way.

Including three-time world champion Michael van Gerwen, 5-3 in a thrilling New Year's Day quarter-final.
