"Those substitutions illustrate the difference in resources available to Steve Bruce and Arsene Wenger. Hull City are desperately in need of fresh impetus and attacking ideas but it is Arsenal who are able to send on Jack Wilshere and Tomas Rosicky for Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla. Will they be the decisive changes?"

Julian:, external Think Wenger got his substitutions spot on today. Wilshere and Rosicky will make the difference.

Back up and running. Well. jogging. The lactic acid is biting hard now.

  4. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 19:18 British Summer Time 17 May 2014

Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla make way for Jack Wilshere and Tomas Rosicky. Might that be Arsene Wenger reflecting on Ozil's miserable penalty effort against Bayern earlier this season?

Time for a lie-down and a rub-down. Another 15 minutes of normal play, then the possibility of the shootout.

Paul McShane shanks an attempted clearance off his shin and it is almost costly, running into the path of Santi Cazorla. The Spaniard tries to shape one into the top corner, but sends a powderpuff shot wide and high.

Liam Rosenior has picked up a strain and can go no further. George Boyd is on in his place and will need to do a more defensive job than usual.

Grant:, external I don't fancy Arsenal to win on penalties. I think they need to score in the next 20 mins to win this.

Ian:, external Started as a neutral. I'll be disappointed now if Arsenal don't win after they didn't get any of those penalties.

Rob:, external Austria won Eurovision - 1966. Atletico won La Liga - 1966. A side come from two goals down to win FA Cup final - 1966...

Aaron Ramsey thumps high and handsome from distance. It is a duck-shoot for the Welshman at the moment, but so far his sights have been a little wonky.

Aaron Ramsey fires a fierce effort into the wrong side of the side netting from an Arsenal point of view. They are the more likely side to find a third at the moment. What are the odds if it goes to penalties though?

Aaron Ramsey sends a bobbling effort into Allan McGregor's gloves from long distance. There are some tiring Hull legs out there. They are not quite as quick out to close down now.

Hull asking a few questions now as Ahmed Elmohamady's skidding cross draws Lukasz Fabianski out of goal to claim ahead of the lurking Matty Fryatt.

Arsenal within a crossbar's width of going ahead for the first time. Curtis Davies coughs up possession, Aaron Ramsey gets his head up and sweeps in a glorious cross which Olivier Giroud plants onto the bar with a powerful header.

A bit too powerful. Anything downward would have been a goal.

Curtis Davies had to be quick there. The Hull centre-back is across to head away just as Santi Cazorla is tensing the neck muscle to bury a cross.

What are the Tigers' tactics for this? Play for penalties or go for glory?

Arsenal kick off the first half of extra time. Where is the match-winner in all of this? And is he wearing red or amber and black?

Over in Spain the tears and champagne are flowing. Atletico Madrid have won their first Spanish title since 1996 after holding Barcelona to a 1-1 draw at the Nou Camp.

They said they would tire, that they would run out of steam. They haven't. And the Nou Camp are singing in their honour.

Former Cardiff manager Malky McKay: "It's been terrific. The courage of the Hull players has been fantastic. Arsenal did well to get themselves back into the game, with two goals from set-pieces, but it's all to play for now."
