    United States manager Jurgen Klinsmann:

"I said to the bench a few minutes before our winner 'we are going to get some chances. We need to push and grind it out'. We trained over and over on set pieces and it was well deserved.

"We have a great spirit and fight until the last minute. It was a grind but it was a wonderful one at the end of the day. There is stuff we need to improve. We had problems with keeping the ball."

"It gave me goose bumps when John Brooks scored. He was on the bench and might have thought he wasn't going to play. At that time there was only going to be one winner and that was Ghana. The USA were just happy to get a corner.

"After Ghana scored they kept pressing and we thought they were going to win. They deserved the equaliser and they were unlucky to lose the game."

"Credit to the USA - they deserved that. You could see they had something to prove for the two previous results in World Cups. They went ahead and held on. Ghana got back in the game and didn't do what they needed to do.

"They gave away that momentum and the USA did all the ugly stuff to see a game out. In a group as tough as this, it's a huge win."
