The World Cup is proving to be a major hit on social media. There have now been one billion interactions (posts, comments and likes) from 220 million people on Facebook about the World Cup so far - the highest peak ever. Twitter also saw a record for the most tweets per minute in their history on Saturday, around the decisive penalty in the Brazil-Chile match, beating the previous record which was the Super Bowl earlier this year.

"It's another knockout game where both teams are not sitting back. They are both going for it. Paul Pogba had the best chance of the half but hit the ball straight at the Nigeria goalkeeper. Pogba has been on the ball a lot, he wants to play, wants to be the person to make the difference.

"There have been times where it hasn't come off for him, but this is a young kid taking the game by the scruff of the neck, and on the world stage."

    Statistics

The first half stats have landed on my desk. As I suspected, there is very little to choose between these two. France need to find another gear. What do Nigeria have left in the tank? It really is all to play for.

"Karim Benzema is stuck out on the left side looks really frustrated. Olivier Giroud is not really doing it in the middle. I wonder if the manager will be tempted to make a change."

"Karim Benzema on the left....does he look happy there? Each time France have looked dangerous Mathieu Valbuena has been involved."

"Didier Deschamps has got to tell Benzema or Matuidi that Evra needs some help. But I don't think Benzema will offer anything going back. That means the French need to make a tactical change. Nigeria are very dangerous down that right-hand side, but need better quality with their deliveries. But they will be the happier side."

Eyobel Gomini:, external Nigeria are threatening going forward, but there is too much space behind the back four. If Karim Benzema or Olivier Giroud get a good pass France could be ahead.

Martino Oscar:, external I think my countryman John Mikel Obi is the worst number 10 player in this World Cup.

HNIC:, external Mikel will not learn until his sloppiness in midfield allows Nigeria to concede.

"When the French get the ball wide they try to look for the cutback, but Olivier Giroud has got to get across that front post like we've seen him do time and time again for Arsenal."

    Mathieu Debuchy fires wide

Mathieu Debuchy shows why defenders are rarely good at finishing as he slices a great chance wide after the goal opens up for him.

Nigeria will be more than pleased with how this is going. France, Paul Pogba's volley aside, are struggling to seriously test keeper Vincent Enyeama.

    Patrice Evra holds Peter Odemwingie

Another corner to Nigeria. It comes to nothing but Patrice Evra has his hands wrapped around Peter Odemwingie. He is lucky the referee did not see that.

Tim, London: Why is Loic Remy on the bench? I think he's a lot more technically gifted than Olivier Giroud.

James, Newcastle: Feel France will win this, but Nigeria are looking dangerous on the the counter-attack.
