"Thomas Muller has 10 goals and six assists in 12 World Cup appearances. That tells you he is involved but he's also unselfish. He makes lots of runs to drag defenders out of position."

Barry Mountford:, external I hope we're in for a great final. Please no scoreless draw, it would be a shame to end a good tournament with a dull end.

Robbie Ross:, external With 40 minutes to go I still don't know who I want to win. But I hope it's 7-6 in 90 mins. I've got work tomorrow!

Mark Marriott:, external Will be sad to see Mike Ingham leave the 5 live commentary team tonight. He will be sadly missed. Good luck Mike.

Real Madrid midfielder Angel Di Maria has been struggling with a groin injury. He is not in the Argentina side this evening but he is not listed on the Fifa teamsheet as injured. So maybe he will be available at some stage.

"Germany's players link up incredibly well down the right-hand side. They all want the ball.

"It's quick, it's direct. They look to overpower teams. I think they work that side very well."

"Germany's players have emerged to warm up to a huge roar from their fans - Argentina's supporters will be in the large majority here today but those backing Joachim Low's men are making their presence felt and were in very confident mood before kick-off. And why not after that 7-1 semi-final demolition of the hosts Brazil."

Just over half an hour to kick-off. You've just got time for one more tea round and the World Cup final will be upon you.

Four years ago we were left with memories of a Nigel de Jong karate kick rather than a great game or goal - let's have some real quality tonight please.

"We thought this World Cup was not going to get better and then we had Germany's 7-1 win over Brazil. For me, personally, having played in World Cups and then being part of the BBC team, I've been able to go out and see what this tournament means to people in Brazil. You don't get to see that as a player because you're holed up in a hotel."

Kame Kalum:, external I remember getting up early in the morning at the University of Papua New Guinea to watch the 1986 World Cup final when Argentina beat West Germany. This time I think Germany will win.

Tom Foreman:, external Can't see this being anything other than a German win. 3-1 Germany. Argentina have been poor, it should have been Germany v Netherlands final.

John Deeks:, external Be very careful Germany. Brazil thought they would be untouchable on home soil, their confidence that nothing could go wrong was their undoing. Do not be arrogant and think you only have to turn up to win.

As the players go through their paces, German coach Joachim Low is the epitome of calm.

Carrying a cup of tea, he goes through a Geoff Boycott style pitch inspection, kneeling down and inspecting the turf with his fingers. It's the World Cup final. He looks like he's getting ready for a kickabout in the back garden.

Argentina midfielder Angel Di Maria or Germany's Sami Khedira will become the 10th player to win both the Champions League and the World Cup in the same season. They both starred in Real Madrid's Champions League win in May.

Seven of the previous nine have been German (Bayern Munich 1974) along with Christian Karembeu in 1998 and Roberto Carlos in 2002.

Former Argentina midfielder Ossie Ardilles, speaking to the BBC World Service World Football programme: "I was shocked by the Brazil v Germany result. I was expecting Germany to win but I was not expecting that at all.

"This is a Brazil that wanted to play like a European team, while Germany played like Brazil. Luiz Felipe Scolari's Brazil changed their style from 'jogo bonito' to a more physical style and they are paying a very heavy price.

"After the home defeat in the 1950 World Cup final against Uruguay, people wouldn't speak to the goalkeeper for 30 years, it wasn't his fault but that was the reaction. It will be very difficult for these Brazil players to come back to normal life."

"Where Lionel Messi has struggled is when teams doubled up on him. I don't think the Germans will double up on him. I think they think they can go on and win the thing. An early goal and we'll be quids in."
