    Switzerland midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri could be playing in the Premier League next season, with Liverpool having reportedly opened talks with Bayern Munich for the 22-year-old.

    Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has tweeted, external that the "clubs are talking to find a deal".

    2014 World Cup

    In just under three hours' time, Group A rivals Mexico and Cameroon kick off today's action in Natal, which is nicknamed, er, the 'City of the Sun'. But as this picture from BBC Sport's Alex South shows, there are not many UV rays on show. It is teeming it down outside the Arena Dos Dunas.

    "The weather has changed drastically with a storm coming through Natal," adds Alex. "There's flooding around the stadium and fans trying to find some shelter."

    Someone start dishing out plastic pack-a-macs to those poor people.

    England's fearless youngsters can cause a surprise at the World Cup, says former Three Lions striker Robbie Fowler.

    The Liverpool legend particularly picked out Reds forwards Daniel Sturridge, 24, and Raheem Sterling, 19, to make an impact.

    "When you have younger players, they hold no fear," Fowler tells BBC Sport. "I'm confident England can get out of the group and once you do that your confidence grows. I can see England doing very, very well."

    Here are few more details about the Manaus pitch for those of you with a penchant for horticulture (and the interests of the England football team).

    FA big-wigs have been handed a reassuring report from the Sports Turf Research Institute, which says the pitch will play absolutely fine - despite looking like a Sunday League-standard surface to the rest of us.

    This is good enough for the FA, who have worked closely with the STRI over the Wembley pitch and the surface at England's training base in Rio.

    BBC Newsbeat's Stefan Powell has been put through his paces in the University of Kent's atmospheric chamber to replicate conditions in the Amazon compared to the British summer.

    While Neymar took his chance to impress in his first match at the World Cup finals, some of the world's best players have gone through their careers without making a significant impact at the World Cup.

    After the Netherlands' failure to qualify for the 1982 and 1986 finals, Ruud Gullit appeared in just one World Cup. By then 27, he scored a memorable goal against the Republic of Ireland in the group stage at Italia 1990, but his side were knocked out in their next game, losing to West Germany in the last 16.
