Elephants never forget - and neither do goalkeepers it seems. Costa Rica's Keylor Navas says the key to saving a penalty from Greece's Theofanis Gekas in their last-16 tie came from the depths of his memory banks.

Gekas only spent a matter of months at Levante in 201,2 but Navas remembers from their days on the Spanish club's training ground where the striker aims his spot-kicks.

"We played together at Levante and I remembered what he used to do in training," Navas tells Fifa.com., external

"I was confident he wasn't going to change the way he takes his penalties and in the end I was able to keep it out.

"My team-mates also deserve praise for putting all their penalties away. I took confidence from that and it definitely helped me."

While Costa Rica celebrate, it's the end of the road for Greece coach Fernando Santos, who is leaving his post as his contract is up.

Santos, who led the Euro 2004 winners to the World Cup knockout stages for the first time, was sent to the stands by the referee before the shootout that led to his team's defeat.

"I don't really like talking about luck, or lack of luck," he said.

"It is a sad moment for us because obviously we want to keep creating history and to make the Greek people even happier. That was not possible.

"When the fifth penalty went in I felt sadness, just sadness. I wanted to continue, I wanted to go to Salvador [for the quarter-finals] - the team wanted to go to Salvador. It was a group feeling of sadness."

Tiz:, external Referees should start award free kicks and penalties to players who stay on their feet. A foul's a foul!!
