A brief stroll along the beaches of Ipanema and Copacabana today has been more than enough to suggest to me that the world is beginning to descend on Brazil. On one acre of sand, a group of England fans were being interviewed by Brazilian TV, there were fans in Argentina shirts, Dutch fans and plenty more from Colombia.

All while the locals played futvolei and other beach games under an overcast sky. Brazilians are cashing in with yellow and green stalls dotted along the main beach areas hawking all manner of souvenirs. But beyond the surface excitement there isn't a great deal of evidence that this is a country ready to erupt with World Cup fever.

Ben hasn't got up in the middle of the night by the way - this was sent by him while we were all asleep in England.

"Few people still take Fifa seriously and, however you look at it, Blatter is mainly responsible," said Van Praag.
