Fifa's head of refereeing has declined to criticise Japanese referee Yuichi Nishimura for awarding a controversial penalty in Brazil's opening World Cup win over Croatia.

Massimo Busacca only went as far as to say "we are human… there is not one human in life that has not committed a mistake". Busacca said Nishimura "had a very good position" to judge whether Fred had been fouled by Croatia's Dejan Lovren.

Ryan, Brighton: It's evolution not revolution. Possession football isn't dead but moved on from tika taka to fast paced counter attacking - possession with a purpose.

Chris Mooney: Adios to the Spanish careers of Casillas, Xavi, Alonso and Torres. Time for new blood. De Gea, Koke, Mata and Pedro to start

Andy in Armagh: Bayern Munich showed Barcelona that tiki-taka football was outdated in the Champions League a couple of seasons ago, Real Madrid then did the same to Pep Guardiola's own Bayern Munich last season. Now the Netherlands have dismantled Spain at the World Cup with their direct, attacking brand of football. I think we've seen the end of tiki-taka and I for one am glad to see the back of it.

Last night's game between Mexico and Cameroon was notable for two disallowed goals that were wrongly chalked off for offiside. Robbie Savage was apoplectic with the decisions.

"What on earth are these officials doing? That linesman should be dropped from the World Cup. I just don't understand it. There is no contact on the keeper when the ball comes in and it's gone straight on to the player's head. That's two goals Mexico have been denied. It's an absolute joke."

But there was not getting away from the big story. Spain's emphatic defeat, following Barcelona's failure to lift a major trophy this season, has many reading the last rites over their distinctive tiki-taka passing style.

BBC Sport's David Ornstein thinks that it may be a change of personnel rather than philosophy that is coming up.

"From speaking to a number of Spanish journalists, the overwhelming feeling is that the philosophy is tried and trusted, has become a part of the national identity and is here to stay," he writes in his latest feature.

"What is clear, however, is that Del Bosque's existing crop are possibly losing the ability and hunger to execute their methods to the level that has brought them many accolades and admirers over the past six years."

"If they has had cameras on us in the studio they would have seen us jumping around. Some of the goals we have seen have been sensational, to see Arjen Robben running past a world-class defender like Sergio Ramos and putting it in the back of the net like he did, that is the sort of thing you want to see at a World Cup and it was in abundance tonight.

"I think Louis van Gaal has set himself a high standard there for Manchester United! If he keeps that up, the Manchester United fans will be very happy."
