Luis Suarez has attracted various levels of condemnation, ridicule and even support for his bite on Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini - and perhaps it was inevitable that the betting market would get in on the act.

And so it has proved - an Australian bookmaker is offering odds on who will be the next victim of a Suarez bite.

Manchester United left-back Patrice Evra is listed as 33-1 favourite, followed by previous bite victims Giorgio Chiellini and Branislav Ivanovic.

Among the 500-1 shots are the Queen, Sky Sports interviewer Geoff Shreeves, Mayor of London Boris Johnson and Piers Morgan. We're not quite sure what to make of that.

Rob in Coventry: Uruguay blame everyone but Luis Suarez. Unbelievable! Who bit a footballer for the third time in their career? Take some responsibility.

  3. One to watch: James Rodriguezpublished at 10:44 British Summer Time 28 June 2014

It would be rather discourteous if we did not pay tribute to Colombia's bright young star ahead of his team's last-16 meeting with Uruguay in Rio de Janeiro this evening.

Monaco's attacking midfielder James Rodriguez, 22, has been sensational in Brazil. He has scored three goals, including one sublime finish in the 4-1 win over Japan.

In the same match Rodriguez, who only came on at half-time, covered 5,268m, with the team average just under 9,000m. He also contributed to five of the 14 deliveries/solo runs into the opposition area - highlighting how dynamic the former Porto player can be.

He provided two assists, had three shots and scored one goal. Uruguay have been warned.

MA Bennett:, external Chile will shock Brazil tonight then go all the way to the final v Holland. Two best teams so far & new name on cup!

Tunde Giwa II:, external Nigeria, with their devastatingly effective players like Enyeama, Musa, etc. Players that will give opposing teams real nightmares.

Andrew Mitchell:, external Colombia, they are well organised, have plenty of pace and a genuine superstar in the making (in James Rodriguez).

Let's take a closer look at Rodriguez...

  5. Motty's World Cup thoughtspublished at 10:35 British Summer Time 28 June 2014

BBC commentary legend John Motson is with us here on the BBC Sport website throughout the day, giving his thoughts on the World Cup so far. Here's his view on the Suarez ban:

"The fact that it was his third alleged bite left Fifa with little room for manoeuvre. The punishment had to be severe, but not draconian and the question of whether his ban should've impacted on Liverpool so much is up for debate.

"If he is already being courted by Barcelona, as is being reported, then it may be in his and Liverpool's interests if he moved to Spain. Liverpool have to protect their investment but if they are in talks with Barcelona then it would be better for all parties if he moved there."

  6. Liverpool will stand by Suarez - Dalglishpublished at 10:30 British Summer Time 28 June 2014

The ban on Suarez is set to prevent him from playing for Liverpool until the end of October, but Dalglish believes Liverpool will stand by him - despite interest from Barcelona.

Dalglish writes:, external "It is my belief that when you bring a player to a football club, he becomes your responsibility. You don't just turn your back on a player because he has done something wrong.

"I think you will find that Liverpool will not turn their back on Suarez, whatever the ban Fifa have decided he must serve. Of course it will be a heavy blow if the club has to do without him for the opening months of the season."

  7. Suarez punishment harsh on Liverpool - Dalglishpublished at 10:26 British Summer Time 28 June 2014

Dalglish adds in his column that he believes the worldwide ban on Suarez punishes Liverpool unfairly - pointing out that previous bans imposed on Suarez for biting during club matches did not apply at international level.

"When he was punished by the FA for the biting incident with Branislav Ivanovic and banned from domestic games, he was still allowed to play for his national team," the former Liverpool manager, now a club director, writes.

"It seems a bit strange, then, that when he is banned for something he did with his national team, his club has to suffer, too."

  8. Suarez needs help - Dalglishpublished at 10:22 British Summer Time 28 June 2014

Kenny Dalglish has suggested that Luis Suarez needs help to control his emotions after the bite on Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini that brought a four-month worldwide ban.

Dalglish was Liverpool's manager when Suarez signed for the club in January 2011, arriving from Ajax - where he had only just completed a ban for biting PSV midfielder Ottman Bakkal.

The Uruguay international also had to serve a 10-match domestic ban imposed for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic in April 2013.

Dalglish writes in the Daily Mirror:, external "You can't really ask any one person why what happened against Italy happened, because there is only person who knows and that is Luis - some people have injuries you can't see.

"Sometimes, when people have something wrong with them, just because they don't have a plaster cast on their leg, people think they don't need help."

  9. No royal favours from Harrypublished at 10:14 British Summer Time 28 June 2014

The diplomacy skills of Prince Harry were put to the test after being asked during his visit to Santiago who he will be supporting when Chile take on Brazil this evening.

Having arrived in the Chilean capital after completing the Brazilian leg of his South American jaunt, he perhaps wisely opts for a bit of fence sitting.

"I'm looking forward to a fantastic game," he says. "I'm not sure if I'll be wearing a Chile shirt but I hope the best team wins.

"Chile has built great momentum in their games so far; I would like to wish the team the best of luck."

  12. Pele predictspublished at 10:01 British Summer Time 28 June 2014

    Pele

Does Pele believe Brazil will win the World Cup for a sixth time this summer? He was hedging his bets when asked by former England captain - and BBC Sport pundit - Alan Shearer:

"I believe Brazil will be in the final," Pele said. "We have to trust our team. But there's one difference this time. Brazil have always been good in attack. I think, for the first time, we have a little problem in attack. But I still trust that Brazil will be in the final."

  13. Webb's World Cup pastpublished at 09:50 British Summer Time 28 June 2014

Howard Webb should be used to the pressure of a big World Cup game, though. After all, he did referee the fractious 2010 final between Spain and the Netherlands.

Remember this? Xabi Alonso does. Ouch. Nigel de Jong escaped with a yellow card for that challenge.

Er, the ball's over there, Nigel.

Even though Roy Hodgson's men failed to make it beyond the group stages, there is some English representation in the last 16 - Rotherham's very own Howard Webb.

The Premier League referee takes charge of Brazil's meeting with Chile in Belo Horizonte this evening with a fair bit of pressure on his shoulders.

Ever since striker Fred was awarded a controversial penalty by Japanese official Yuichi Nishimura in the opening match against Croatia, there have been claims that Brazil are getting an easy ride from referees - meaning that the spotlight will be on Webb tonight.

But Brazil team spokesman Rodrigo Paiva said any such suggestions were disrespectful and "immature".

Paiva told the pre-match news conference: "This kind of pressure I think is ridiculous. Brazil doesn't need a referee to win the match and you should respect a little bit more the Brazilian national team and the Brazilian people."

    Ivan ZamaranoImage source, AFP

Chile have every cause to be optimistic ahead of their last-16 tie with hosts Brazil after impressing in the group stages. In fact, former Chile striker Ivan Zamorano says the players are even talking about going all the way and winning the World Cup for the first time.

"The current generation has broken the mould. Chile have always had good players, but an entire generation of them is hard to come by," Zamorano tells Fifa.com., external

"These guys have a different mentality. When you hear them talk, they all speak about becoming world champions.

"This team are better equipped to take on different international challenges: they have earned their stripes and are a lot more mature and experienced."

John Dykes:, external Netherlands' firepower may carry them all the way, although Germany will be hard to beat and Colombia will continue to impress.

Stuart Duncan:, external France. Highest scores in friendlies and impressive range of finishing. Argentina fallible (Iran).

"You would hope that Daniel Sturridge, Raheem Sterling, Jack Wilshere and Ross Barkley are the nucleus of a new England team.

"Luke Shaw has just gone to Manchester United for nearly £30m and I hope he is not overawed by that price tag as he could be the England left-back for years to come.

"We have to look after our young players better, but that's difficult when they are playing in so many high-profile games including those in the Champions League."

BBC commentator John Motson, who has covered 10 World Cups, is giving his thoughts on the 2014 competition.

  18. Get involvedpublished at 09:22 British Summer Time 28 June 2014

James in Loughborough: "Re: Motty's point about league structure and a mid-season break (08:20). How can that be an issue as well as all the foreigners in the league? The lack of a break doesn't seem to have affected all the non-English players in our league. Their countries are doing ok at the World Cup."

  19. Unbelievable! Kamara catches a criminalpublished at 09:20 British Summer Time 28 June 2014

    Chris KamaraImage source, Chris Kamara

Luis Suarez isn't the only big story at this World Cup, though. Not when Chris Kamara is chasing down a thief on the streets of Brazil.

Former Swindon, Leeds and Luton midfielder Kamara - best known in the UK as a Sky Sports football pundit these days - caught a man who robbed his brother-in-law.

But after he handed the suspected thief over to the authorities, he told BBC Radio 5 live's George Riley that he was told off by police, because the guidance given to tourists is not to chase attackers.

"They said it's not good for holidaymakers to think that you've got to challenge these people - they could be armed," Kamara said.
