  3. 'Spring in the step'published at 16:14 British Summer Time 11 October 2014

Gordon Strachan has declared himself happy with Scotland's progress under his guidance but he's reluctant to set a points target in Euro 2016 qualifying.

"We seem to be adding to the spring in the step of Scottish sports fans and that makes us happy," he said.

"The players make me feel confident. They determine the mood of the coaches most of the time and they have satisfied me this week."

Scotland have not played at a major finals since the 1998 World Cup, but an upturn in results and an expanded tournament have raised hopes of a return to France the year after next.

"How you get there, you never know," added Strachan, who was tight-lipped on his team selection. "You can't plan it. You never know when the big games are and when the disasters are coming.

"You just have to deal with them and hope there aren't too many disasters."

However, ex-Sunderland and Ipswich boss Keane admits he wants to be the boss again in the future.

"Deep down I do want to get back in the hotseat, but I don't know when that will be.

"Hopefully there will be an opportunity for me to get back to be a manager. I don't sit around hoping for managers to lose their job but if I get a call from somebody I will have a look at it."

Republic of Ireland and Aston Villa assistant manager Roy Keane says he is "enjoying" being a number two - for now.

"I think, strangely enough, that being a manager has helped me being a number two because I know how difficult it is.

"I have to know my boundaries with Martin O'Neill. I know my role and hopefully Martin is taking my opinions on board about players and training sessions. I've no problem with that.

"When I was captain at Manchester United, people thought I overstepped the mark but I don't ever think I did. I knew I was not the manager."

The Euro 2016 qualifying juggernaut has rumbled into action and we have a veritable feast to warm our collective cockles.

Scotland, emboldened and disappointed in equal measure following their gallant defeat by Germany, aim to record a first win in Group D against Georgia.

Georgia, of course, are managed by Temuri Ketsbaia, the former Newcastle and Dundee striker who, during his playing days, had advertising hoardings cowering in fear of his white-hot goal celebrations.

Bald as an eagle - with less hair than Duncan Goodhew and a steely-eyed determination to upset Scotland's applecart - Ketsbaia will be one to watch in the technical area at Ibrox.
