Neil Warnock is the last to emerge from the tunnel, a bottle of water in hand. No jumpers or jacket for the Palace boss, who is wearing a t-shirt on what must be a balmy afternoon in London. A handshake between the bosses. A smile from Jose Mourinho. Jovial stuff on the touchline.

One extra bit of team news for you, on the Chelsea bench today is Dominic Solanke, a 17-year-old striker who was youth team top scorer last season when a schoolboy.

    Guy Mowbray
BBC Match of the Day commentator at Selhurst Park

"If Palace can repeat their feat of last March and beat Chelsea in successive league games for the first time in over 32 years, it will be Neil Warnock's 50th win as Palace manager over his two spells in charge.

"This is his seventh game back and just the sort he'd have thought about when offered the chance to get back into management.

"The Yorkshireman has never hidden his enthusiasm for pitting his wits against the biggest in the game, and a touchline tussle with Jose Mourinho is something he'll relish - in the right way of course. Warnock this week said the Chelsea boss was "the next best thing" to his own idol, Brian Clough."

  8. A Costa-ly mistake?published at 14:51 British Summer Time 18 October 2014

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho wasn't too happy with the Spanish FA after Costa played all but eight minutes of Spain's two Euro 2016 qualifiers.

The Premier League's leading scorer isn't even on the substitutes' bench this afternoon so we will see how the Blues cope without a striker who has scored nine goals already this season.

  9. Team newspublished at 14:48 British Summer Time 18 October 2014

Red-hot striker Diego Costa misses out for Chelsea, so Loic Remy starts up front in what is his first league start and Willian is also in. Palace make one change - Brede Hangeland replaces the injured Scott Dann.

Palace: Speroni, Kelly, Hangeland, Delaney, Ward, Bolasie, Jedinak, McArthur, Ledley, Puncheon, Campbell.

Chelsea: Courtois; Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Azpilicueta; Matic, Fabregas; Willian, Oscar, Hazard; Remy.

  10. Terry is Chelsea's leading manpublished at 14:46 British Summer Time 18 October 2014

It was John Terry's own goal which led to last season's defeat at Selhurst Park, but the Chelsea captain has long since bounced back from such disappointment and is today leading his team for a 500th time. 500!

The centre-back also equals Frank Lampard's record of 429 Premier League games for the club.

Terry and his team-mates have returned to the dressing room after their pre-match warm-up which means play will be under way soon. In about 15 minutes, to be exact.

  11. Will history repeat itself?published at 14:45 British Summer Time 18 October 2014

Crystal Palace beat Chelsea in their last league game - the Stamford Bridge club's title challenge coming undone with that 1-0 defeat in March. Have Chelsea learnt their lesson?

"My lesson, in that specific game, was not a lesson. It was one on of these games I deserved to lose. When I deserve to lose, I know why I lose," said Mourinho of that match. Lesson learnt then.

Enough about the aristocracy and the British class system, can Premier League newcomers Palace, Chelsea's poorer London neighbours, stop the multimillionaires who hang out on the King's Road?

The league leaders were in formidable form before the international break and since Jose Mourinho returned to the club as manager on the eve of the 2013-14 season, Chelsea have kept 21 clean sheets, more than any other side in the Premier League.

Oh, and one final thing about Warnock. He's a renaissance man, the sort who sheds a salty tear while watching Downton Abbey. , external

"I like period dramas and I cry at films a lot. I love watching The Way We Were (starring Streisand and Robert Redford)," he told Henry Winter., external "The kids love it when I'm slobbering away."

(Disclaimer: I'm afraid there was no time to create a meme or mock up a picture of Warnock, popcorn balancing on his belly, blubbering while watching a period drama.)

  14. They call him mellow Neil...published at 14:36 British Summer Time 18 October 2014

But Neil Warnock has mellowed with age and is no longer the sort of man who starts a feud, with the Palace boss saying "life is too short".

The 65-year-old has also been gushing about today's opponents, likening Mourinho to former Nottingham Forest and Derby boss Brian Clough.

"My idol growing up was Cloughie and Jose is the next best thing," Warnock told the Daily Telegraph., external "To get players on that sort of money, with those reputations, to run through a brick wall is not easy but Jose gets them to do it."

  15. Mourinho to do the same againpublished at 14:34 British Summer Time 18 October 2014

Aston Villa assistant Roy Keane described the Chelsea boss as a "disgrace" for offering his hand before the final whistle had brought an end to Chelsea's match against Aston Villa at the end of September.

Mourinho's response to Keane and Villa manager Paul Lambert? He would do the same again, so be prepared Neil Warnock.

"I appreciate the comments," said the Chelsea boss when asked about Keane and Lambert. "I think they are both two great examples of polite and very well-educated people, and because I'm a humble guy who tries to learn every day and with every experience, I appreciate the comments."
