  3. The miracle of Murtonpublished at 19:10 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2014

A win tonight and Blyth will be in the Third Round. The promised land for all non-league sides, and potential ties against Newcastle, Manchester United or Chelsea could await.

Taking on one of the big boys could even be Jeff Young's finest hour. His favourite game to date was !a Northern League game away to Murton (a former mining village near Sunderland) in the early 1990s."

I'm not making this up. Read more from Superfan Jeff Young here.

And for one Blyth fan in particular, tonight is a special occasion. It will certainly be in his top 400 games anyway. Maybe even top 100...

Spartans super fan Jeff Young has not missed a game since January 1987. NINETEEN EIGHTY-SEVEN. Twenty-seven years of consecutive games, totalling 1,506 before tonight.

We've all met the odd dedicated individual down the years, but Jeff really is a special case.

Jeff has seen three promotions - from Northern League, through both divisions of the Northern Premier League, to the Conference North - and one relegation, back to the NPL.

There have also been famous FA Cup ties, including a 4-3 defeat at Blackpool in the first round in 1997, and a run in 2008-09 that ended with Spartans losing 1-0 to Blackburn Rovers in the third round.

But tonight could top the lot...

Blyth ply their trade in the Northern Premier League Premier Division, and are used to facing the likes of FC United, Trafford, Belper Town and Rushall Olympic.

Hartlepool may not be top of many fans' away grounds to tick off - but for Blyth and their fans, tonight is massive...

That's right. Some of the Spartans squad have been to work today before clocking off for the Cup.

Surely you've got to use an annual leave day there?

    The working week is done.

You're out of the office, you've closed up the garage, set the telephone to voicemail and have two lie-ins scheduled in your diary.

No doubt the toil of the week has left its mark on you, you're tired but also strangely invigorated by that Friday night feeling. A few drinks maybe, a takeaway, a chance to kick back and relax.

But not for everyone. For a handful of Blyth Spartans players tonight sees their hobby cast under the national glare.

After working all week as scaffolders, labourers, passport office workers, plumbers, taxi drivers, barmen and car factory workers, tonight the part-time footballers become full-time heroes. Potentially.

The FA Cup is back. Can the underdogs do it again?

Hartlepool United midfielder Matty Dolan, plus strikers Scott Fenwick and Joe Ironside are cup-tied.

Pools hope to gain clearance for Adam Armstrong from Newcastle, while Matteo Lanzoni is free to play after Cambridge gave their permission.

Blyth striker Dan Maguire is available despite his withdrawal through injury against Witton Albion last weekend.

Nathan Buddle, Stephen Turnbull and Damen Mullen all return to the club where they began their careers.
