"Van Persie just had too many touches and it enabled Lloris to compose himself to save. It id definitely a tactic for United to play the ball over the shoulder of the Tottenham defence for the runs of Van Persie and Falcao spinning in behind."

Another huge let off for Tottenham. Robin van Persie is sent clear on goal by Michael Carrick's chipped through ball but, after a decent first touch, his effort from just yards out is half blocked by Hugo Lloris's legs. The keeper does well but Van Persie has to score from there.

David Cotterill is involved again as the midfielder delivers another low, bouncing cross into the box but this time Blues forward Clayton Donaldson sticks out a leg and gets a glancing touch to divert the ball in to the far corner.

"The benefactors of this break-neck speed match could be Chelsea, who come here on 1 January. The players are putting so much into this match and it is sure to have an impact on the squad."

Rob in Newbury, via text: Dear Mac and John - a newsflash for you both. David De Gea plays for United and is part of their defence. How many defences would be good without their best player? And Spurs have let in more even with Lloris.

Glenn from Belfast, via text: De Gea is doing what he is employed to do, keep goal, and I'm glad Utd have him. The idea of him going to Madrid and Bale coming here is ridiculous.

Anonymous via text: Why do people act like it's pure luck if your goalkeeper is winning you games? He's still part of the team isn't he? No rules are broken if he saves a few shots.

Forest are undone by a set-piece after dominating possession, with David Cotterill's low free-kick from the left bobbling in to the far corner of Karl Darlow's net after failing to get a touch in a crowded penalty box.

The visitors keep coming as Radamel Falcao latches on to Juan Mata's through ball, cuts inside Federico Fazio, but curls a shot that is easy for Hugo Lloris.

Tottenham will be relieved to be level after a frantic opening 30 minutes. They have looked dangerous themselves a couple of times but United look capable of breaking them down at will at the moment.

Suheil Patel:, external Falcao looks a shadow of a player he was at Atletico Madrid... Injury might be one reason

Andy Donley:, external Juan Mata has been looking increasingly dangerous recently. Fancy him to make the difference today.

Jeremiah Kariuki:, external This game is just swinging from one end to the other! Not settled at all yet.

Forest have asserted themselves in the game after a slow start but have failed to convert possession (66% to 34%) into goals and have largely been restricted to long-range efforts from Henri Lansbury and Robert Tesche.

A couple of yellow cards for a rattled Spurs as Andros Townsend and Benjamin Stambouli go in the book for late tackles.

The replays show Phil Jones's header (25 mins) crosses the line but the offside decision against the defender was correct. A pat on the back for the officials.

John on the Isle of Wight, via text: Re Rob, Newbury: United are awful defensively. United's defensive stats and winning run are purely down to the outstanding De Gea. Without him United would be in the bottom half of the table.

Mac in Sheffield, via text: Dear Rob from Newbury, I'm sure that's down almost entirely to David De Gea.

Almost half of Manchester United's attacks so far have come down the left. A feather in the cap for Ashley Young, something for Tottenham and their full-back Vlad Chiriches to ponder.

  14. CLOSE!published at 12:25 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2014

United go close again. Phil Jones's far post header can only be tipped goalwards by Hugo Lloris with Jan Vertonghen acrobatically clearing off the line. United claim the ball was over the line but, with the flag raised for offside, it is immaterial.

So close for the visitors. Juan Mata's curled free-kick deflects off the Tottenham wall, leaving Hugo Lloris stranded, but the ball smacks off the post and Radamel Falcao is unable to bundle home the loose ball.

  17. CLOSE!published at 12:20 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2014

Radamel Falcao should do better. The striker is played clear on goal by Juan Mata's slide-rule through ball but, under pressure from two recovering defenders, his shot is easy for Hugo Lloris.

At the other end, an unmarked Harry Kane is unable to connect to Andros Townsend's chipped cross as the game opens up.

Radamel Falcao goes down holding his face after a coming together with Jan Vertonghen. To be fair to the Colombian he was brushed in the face by the defender's arm but nothing to see here.
