John Guidetti will be eligible for the round of 32, having missed the group stage signing deadline. But is that enough? Do Celtic need to strengthen in January or is just a case of getting the best out of talents already at the club like James Forrest and Kris Commons?

"Everything is possible," answers Ronny Deila on Celtic's chances in the knock-out rounds. "If we can handle this team (Salzburg) that is the level we need to be at."

Problem is, they didn't really handle Salzburg at all, did they?

That's Celtic been beaten at home by Legia Warsaw, Maribor and now Salzburg this season.

    Celtic manager Ronny Deila

"We are happy to be going through but we wanted to do it ourselves. We opened the game very poorly but showed courage to come back and I'm proud of the second half; we really put them under pressure. Salzburg has shown themselves a very good team and the best teams are going through."

BBC Scotland's Richard Wilson at Celtic Park

"Celtic's second-half revival fell short, although Salzburg's late third goal wasn't reflective of the balance of play. Celtic will need to improve to go further in the Europa League, but they have at least made the knockout stages despite losing to Salzburg. Much work still to do for the manager Ronny Deila."

"Celtic have been much more threatening and self-assured, and the substitutions have all been bold, with Forrest, Commons and Tonev all coming on. Salzburg are no longer in command, but carry a threat of their own. Much still to play for in the final quarter at Celtic Park."
