As if to emphasise my previous point, Alloa striker Liam Buchanan gets the jump on the Rangers defence to meet a header near the penalty spot but skews his effort well off target. Moments later, the same player has a great chance as the ball breaks to him but drags his shot wide with a lot of the goal to aim for.

With 10 minutes left in the first half at Recreation Park Alloa will be the happier side. They are competing well and have had the best sight of goal through Greig Spence.

Kenny Miller hooks the ball into the path of Kris Boyd but the Rangers striker cannot get it under control in the penalty area and the danger is cleared. Alloa break swiftly and visiting keeper Steve Simonsen has to sweep up at the edge of his own box.

Nicky Law scored two screamers for Rangers in Sunday's 3-0 Scottish Cup win over Kilmarnock, so it's no surprise to see him have a pop from distance. This time the midfielder's effort flies high over the crossbar.
