George Smith on Facebook: Can Dundee win the derby for the first time in 10 years? Probably not.
Dundee react well to that early setback but Greg Stewart's effort is off target.
bringthemonjpn: Perfect match to start the New year. Has goals written all over it. Dundee to sneak it.
Bang! What a start to proceedings as United hit the front.
Conor Townsend knocks a ball back across goal from the left, Chris Erskine tries his luck and the ball deflects off Stuart Armstrong, leaving Arvid Schenk helpless.
And we're off in 2015, with Dundee getting this derby match under-way.
The fans are already in fine voice at Dens Park as the teams await kick-off on a rainy day on Tayside.
Dundee goalkeeper Kyle Letheren picked up a knock in the warm up and he's replaced by Arvid Schenk, the 25-year-old German.
Kyle Gourlay is the sub keeper for the Dark Blues.
We're just a few minutes away from the opening game of 2015 in the Scottish football calendar.
Fingers crossed for a flurry of goalmouth action and plenty of talking points.
Dougie Kinnear: Even if it's only for a few hours, getting to the top of the league at New Year would be superb! #yearofthesheep
"You want your fans to be happy. We're at home and we want to get back to winning ways.
"Dundee have overloaded the midfield area so we expect a battle in there, but it's important we keep our discipline and shape."
The Dundee rivals have met twice already this season, with United hammering Dee 4-1 at Dens Park in the league in September and then winning 1-0 in the Scottish Cup.
In September's Premiership match, Mario Bilate opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Ryan Dow, Callum Morris and Keith Watson added goals for the Tannadice men and Greg Stewart replied late on.
It was a closer game in the Scottish Cup a few days later but the outcome was the same, a Jaroslaw Fojut header winning it for Jackie McNamara's men.
"It's a game that the fans remember and it's one we're looking forward to.
"We've changed the system a bit. We've been on a sticky run but it's a game we're up for. The atmosphere will be electric and we need to try to impose ourselves on the game.
"These games are always frantic but we've got to be calm and composed when we get the ball."
The line-ups for today's match at Tannadice are in and there's a blow for the hosts with goalkeeper Kyle Letheren picking up a knock in the warm-up. Taking his place in between the sticks is German glove man Arvid Schenk.
Dundee: Schenk, Irvine, Dyer, Konrad, McPake, Davidson, McGowan, McAlister, Stewart, Clarkson, Harkins.

Dundee United: Cierzniak, Dillon, Watson, Fojut, Townsend, Butcher, Rankin, Armstrong, Erskine, Mackay-Steven, Ciftci.

So it's off to Tayside we go for the first Scottish football action of 2015, with Dundee looking for revenge on their neighbours from across Tannadice street.
