  1. Post update

Ah, well. The greatest drama came outside Ibrox this evening. Without question, there will be further developments in the battle for the boardroom in the coming days and weeks. For now, I'll call it a day. Thanks very much for logging on to the BBC Sport website. All the best.

  2. Post update

Alim Ozturk slides in on Rangers striker Kenny Miller

Hearts' central defender Alim Ozturk slides in on Rangers striker Kenny Miller.

  3. Post update

    John Collins and Ronny Deila

Celtic assistant manager John Collins and manager Ronny Deila were at Ibrox but they would not have gleaned much about League Cup opponents Rangers from the short-lived match against league leaders Hearts.

  4. Post update

BBC Scotland reporter Brian McLauchlin outside Ibrox

"There are about 600 fans outside the main entrance. There is a police cordon and police horses. One or two board members have been peering down from behind the curtains but it's very peaceful."

  5. Post update

BBC Scotland football pundit Willie Miller

"I think the referee has been misled a bit with the undersoil heating. I don't think the referee did enough to test the pitch. You need to turn and throw the ball up and see if it sticks. There will be an investigation."

  6. Texts to 80294

Anonymous: "Any other conspiracy theorists out there wonder if the lack of effort to clear the pitch might have something to do with the current issues in Govan? The hierarchy might just think that a rearranged fixture will come at a time of higher morale both among the team and the support!"

Anonymous: "Canny believe the game was even on.. All about Rangers getting the cash. Should never have started the game!!"

Bill Mills, Inverness: "BT Sport dictated that game tonite, TV rules."

  7. Post update

    Hearts head coach Robbie Neilson

"I think it was the right decision to start the game, but it was becoming worse and dangerous. You need to try to start the game. Sometimes the snow dissipates a bit but that didn't happen tonight. We brought 2,000 fans through and I'd like to thank them. I'm disappointed for them."

  8. Post update

    Rangers manager Kenny McDowall

"We couldn't disagree (with the abandonment). There was a lot of preparation for the game. We were looking forward to it."

  9. Post update

    BBC Scotland's Tom English

"The embarrassing thing is it stopped snowing at seven o'clock. They had 45 minutes to clear the pitch. There wasn't an effort to do so."

  10. Post update

Referee Bobby Madden tells BBC Radio Scotland

"It was the right decision (to start). The fans were inside the ground. I made the final decision based on player safety. The information is forecast to come back on. There was a potential risk of injury. When you see the players running at 100%, you see they are struggling. It was the best decision to start the game and see what happened."

  11. Post update

The strange thing is the six-yard boxes are perfectly clear. With some effort, other areas could have been cleared too, but it's debateable whether the whole pitch could have been cleared in time for kick-off.

  12. Post update

The Hearts players go over to the corner of the Broomloan Road stand to thank their fans for making the journey through from Edinburgh, and elsewhere presumably. Well, they saw 25 minutes of ice-football, a new sport.

  13. MATCH ABANDONED

The game has been called off.

  14. Post update

The referee comes over to talk to the managers again. The snow is falling lightly. The fans are booing.

  15. Post update

    The fans protest before kick-off

Mounted police were used to hold angry fans back outside the main door of Ibrox ahead of kick-off.

  16. Post update

    BBC Scotland commentator Liam McLeod

"We are hearing the game is going to be abandoned."

  17. Post update

Referee Bobby Madden tests the pitch ahead of kick-off

Referee Bobby Madden tested the pitch ahead of kick-off.

  18. Post update

    Chick Young

    BBC Sport

"I think they are going to give it another five minutes to see how it goes."

  19. Post update

Referee Bobby Madden is talking to the two team managers. Game on or game off?

  20. HITS THE WOODWORK

Rangers keeper Steve Simonsen, in day-glo yellow, manages to get a fingernail to the Hearts defender's excellent strike to tip it on to the crossbar. Great strike by Ozturk.

  21. Post update

Alim Ozturk digs some space in the snow to place the ball and lines up a free-kick for Hearts...

  22. Post update

Danny Wilson passes the ball back to his goalkeeper, the former Rangers goalie Neil Alexander. Hmm, is that wise on a pitch like that?

  23. Texts to 80295

Mark, Berkshire: "Needs to be a dark orange ball not a yellow ball for a snowy pitch."

Allan, Perth: "No undersoil heating at Ibrox these days?"

Ab, Ayrshire: "Listening to BBC Scotland radio coverage. Their bias against Rangers loud and clear. Why give the Easdale brothers so much bad press. Did they not give interest free loans at least twice."

Gordon: "What does Liam mean no chance of Hearts shipping 16 points, there is no chance of them shipping 10, league is over."

  24. Post update

Rangers boss Kenny McDowall and Hearts head coach Robbie Neilson discuss matters in the technical area. They don't look too impressed that the match is on.

  25. Post update

Hearts' attacking full-back Callum Paterson is sent sprawling in a foray down the right wing. The players really seem to be struggling to keep on their feet.

  26. Post update

In the first piece of real action, striker Jon Daly rises to nod the ball down for Rangers team-mate Nicky Law, who prods a shot a few feet wide of the target from eight yards.

  27. Post update

As if to underline the crazy conditions, Rangers full-back Lee Wallace runs up the left wing and takes a fresh-air swipe when trying to cross the ball - it stayed stuck in the snow when Wallace thought it would roll on. Madness.

  28. Post update

I must say, the pitch to me looks unplayable, but I don't have the luxury of running about on it to check it out.

  29. Post update

Big Genero Zeefuik is fouled and Hearts win a free-kick 35 yards from goal. However, the lob into the box is cleared.

  30. Post update

The six-yard boxes have been cleared of snow and the lines on the pitch, too, but it's a comical scene. It's ice skates the players need, not football boots!

  31. KICK-OFF

And we're off and running...and sliding through the snow with a yellow ball.

  32. Post update

    BBC Scotland commentator Liam McLeod

"It's win or bust for Rangers. Surely they must win tonight if they have ambitions to go up as champions, because surely there is no chance of Hearts shipping 16 points."

  33. Post update

BBC Scotland's Tom English at Ibrox

"You can't discount Rangers in the depths of all this getting a result but I just don't think the team is good enough."

  34. Post update

    We're a minute away from kick-off.

  35. Post update

Former Rangers and Hearts midfielder Derek Ferguson

"Rangers need to go out and try to stop this Hearts juggernaut. It's a big night for some of these Rangers players."

  36. Post update

    Chick Young

    BBC Sport

"It is a miserable attendance, about 6,000-7,000. Many fans were planning to protest outside the main stand and then go elsewhere to watch the game. There is a real sea-change in the mood of the fans tonight."

  37. Post update

    Supporters outside Ibrox

Rangers fans flocked to Ibrox when they were playing in the bottom two tiers of Scottish football but many are so disgruntled with the current regime that they are staying away.

  38. Post update

A Rangers fan protesting outside the main door at Ibrox tells BBC Radio Scotland he is "very concerned" about the future of the club. "Why does Mike Ashley not make his intentions clear?" he asks. Another says the situation is the worst in 15 years of following Rangers. "If the board go in the next few weeks, Ibrox would be full again," says a supporter. "This board has to go."

  39. Post update

Rangers manager Kenny McDowall has made just one change to the side which narrowly beat Alloa last week as winger Fraser Aird returns to replace David Templeton.

Gorgie head coach Robbie Neilson also kept his alterations to a minimum, with Jordan McGhee coming in for James Keatings.

  40. Post update

There are 15 minutes to go and the stadium is only a fraction full. There are large banks of empty blue seats.

  41. Post update

Celtic manager Ronny Deila and assistant John Collins are at Ibrox to take in the game.

  42. Post update

    Hearts head coach Robbie Neilson

"We know what we are going to do. After today's game there are still 15 games to go - that's 45 points. Our main aim is to win the league and we haven't won it yet. We need to focus game to game. It's part of football, you can't look too far ahead. We'll try to play our passing game but if the conditions get any worse we'll need to be more direct. We can go for the win because of the (13-point) cushion that we have."

  43. Post update

There are about 600 fans outside Ibrox

There are about 600 fans outside Ibrox making it clear they want the current board out.

  44. Post update

BBC Scotland reporter Brian McLauchlin outside Ibrox

"The police horses are moving in to try to push the fans back. There are four horses, two either side of the main entrance."

  45. Post update

BBC Scotland reporter Brian McLauchlin at Ibrox

"There are 400-500 fans outside Ibrox protesting. The fans I spoke to say they are happy about They are very unhappy about the (possibility of) £10m loan from Mike Ashley. There are very unsavoury scenes here. They are shouting that they want Ashley out and the board out. The crowd is growing. There are maybe 600 here now. Many will, though, be going inside to watch the game."

  46. Post update

    Rangers fans protest outside Ibrox

Rangers fans are protesting outside Ibrox about the current board and the possibility of them accepting a £10m loan from shareholder Mike Ashley which would have the famous stadium and the training ground as security.

  47. Post update

Interestingly for the visiting fans, burly Dutch striker Genero Zeefuik starts. Can he add to his two goals on his debut at Dumbarton last week?

  50. Post update

A warm welcome... Hang on, a very welcome to thaw you out on this wintry evening in Glasgow where the Rangers-Hearts match goes ahead despite the heavy snowfall over Ibrox in recent hours.
