Tom, Worcester: Samir Nasri gets a few slaps in the face from Yaya Toure in the celebration, so Nasri gives him a little jab to the belly in response.

Talking about Edin Dzeko, the big striker receives the ball with his back to goal, turns and curls over the bar. The presence of Wilfried Bony on the bench may be acting as a bit of a spur to him.

"It is a superb start from City. Edin Dzeko is involved again and it was good play by both he and Samir Nasri. Sometimes we accuse Nasri of taking too much time but he just did enough this time to open things up and fire home."

    Dzeko

How's this for a contribution. Striker Edin Dzeko has only touched the ball once inside the penalty area - as shown by the graphic above - but has already got two assists.

Clinical, very clinical. Edin Dzeko races down the right, squares the ball to Samir Nasri inside the penalty area and he does the rest. The midfielder shows great feet and composure to work a bit of space before slamming the ball into the top corner. Newcastle, I don't envy you now.

Abhishek: Cool as a cucumber would be an understatement for that goal. Sergio Aguero just stroked the ball in.

Almost a stunner from Daryl Janmaat. The Newcastle defender cuts inside and sends a fierce shot just inches wide of the upright from 20 yards. A flailing Joe Hart looked beaten.

Newcastle have responded to the set back well. They look as though they are going to give this a go but could well be prone to being caught on the break. There are more goals in this.

"A few (extremely marginally) late arrivers near me got very excited as they emerged inside Etihad Stadium and realised that penalty had been given and Manchester City's early goal has created a real buzz around the ground... apart from the Newcastle end, obviously. At least the Magpies fans had a good view of Vurnon Anita's foul - it happened right in front of them."

Interestingly, former France international Remy Garde is at the stadium working with French television. John Carver has been given the Toon's managerial job until the end of the season but Garde has been long been linked with the position.

Former Manchester City striker Shaun Goater on BBC Radio Manchester: "We said about Edin Dzeko having a big influence on this game and you can tell he is fired up for this, it was an unintentional one but a deserved penalty.

"Such composure with the penalty, the keeper just stood still and had no chance."

Easy. Sergio Aguero steps up and converts from the penalty spot with Tim Krul rooted to the spot.

  13. PENALTY TO MANCHESTER CITYpublished at 17:30 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2015

What a start for City as, after 28 seconds Vurnon Anita trips Edin Dzeko in the penalty area after taking a shocking touch.

The teams are out Etihad. A win takes Manchester City to just five points behind leaders Chelsea. They would have been expecting that gap to be 10. Can they capitalise?

Still plenty of City fans to take their seats but you can be sure this place will be buzzing by kick off. A few banners welcoming Wilfried Bony to Etihad - they will have to wait though as he settles for a place on the substitutes bench.

"There were cheers from the home supporters already inside Etihad Stadium when the final whistle went at Stamford Bridge, and Manchester City can claim some credit for Burnley's equaliser.

"Both Kieran Trippier, who sent over the corner, and Ben Mee, who scored with a header, are products of the City academy - and both are also lifelong City fans."

A traditional 4-4-2 expected for Newcastle as well. Papiss Cisse is one to watch as he has the best minutes per goal rate of any player in the Premier League this season - 74.

    Man City

So, City are expected to line up 4-4-2, with Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko leading the line. They have a pretty useful substitute in Wilfried Bony too...

Having said that, Barcelona have just lost 1-0 at home to Malaga in La Liga. City will hope they don't come up against wounded beast syndrome on Tuesday night.
